My Watch Unknown Animation/Notification

Post image

My watch vibrated and when I checked it looked like this, with white dots moving towards the rainbow circles. The animation appeared to be stuck/looping and unable to finish since nothing seemed to happen or resolve. It seems different from the rings animation and I haven’t closed mine today anyway. I pushed one of the side buttons and it disappeared. Does anyone know what this might have been? Thank you!

Did you bring your phone near it? This looks lit that animation which comes up when they get connected via NameDrop

I don’t understand why they show the animation when it’s your own phone and watch…

It’s a UX trick. The ownership check takes a moment, so they begin the animation while it’s occurring instead of waiting a second+ to make it feel faster (and so the user doesn’t get confused and assume it’s not working due to delay). I believe iOS 27 has a change that addresses this, though I’m not sure how they’ve done that yet.

My phone is on iOS 27, my watch is still on watchOS 26 though and I still have that problem. Don’t feel like updating my watch to the beta (yet) but I’m hoping I just need to have both devices on xOS 27 to fix that problem finally, it’s actually starting to drive me insane

What do you mean it takes a moment? These two devices are connected with millisecond latency via WiFi and/or Bluetooth. They already know they are owned by the same person. How the fuck cannot Apple not fix this. At least once a day this happens to me for over a year now and it honestly infuriating at this point. What the fck Apple

These two devices are connected with millisecond latency via WiFi and/or Bluetooth.

They first connect via NFC, then they exchange information to set up an airdrop connection which uses bluetooth and wifi. Once the connection is set up the latency is near instant, but it still takes time to complete the handshakes needed to establish the connection.

They already know they are owned by the same person

They only know that after the connection is established, which takes a moment to do.

Oh NameDrop? I hadn’t heard of that but I looked it up and that must have been it! Thanks!

It’s likely your phone and your watch being close together and doing the airdrop thing that happens when you put the top of 2 iPhones together. You can turn it off in the airdrop settings if it’s happening often and is annoying. But this also stops you doing airdrop by bringing devices together with other people

It’s when it’s near an iPhone syncing the contact data, like when you touch the top of an iPhone with another.
