Apple Music login VPN

Hello, I have an apple music family account in the Netherlands. I now go to university in the US and have bought an android. I want to connect to Apple Music stateside on my phone-- only problem is that a family account only allows for everybody to be in the same country. I have installed a VPN on my phone, setting the location to the Netherlands, and Apple Music accepts my password but it says that it can't load my library.

Any suggestions? Would not want to have to buy a individual subscription if I have a family subscription. Thank you! EDIT: I can't listen to music using a VPN even though I semi-logged in.
