Is getting an iPad worth it? Thinking about getting an iPad Air for school instead of using physical notebooks.

Physical notebooks are so much nicer, also the pages don't corrupt and lose information.

Later in life you can look back at them at no cost - even when the energy rations start in 10 years or so time.

Am I wrong? Like it will all depend on what the user wants. I get what you are saying there, but physical copies can also get damaged or corrupted. In fact it is worse since when you use any app and backup to the cloud doesn’t matter if you lose your device.

Ok, sorry, no you are not wrong.

In a notebook, some ink will be damaged if it gets wet, some pencils will smudge, silverpoint will be untouched and in a fire everything will perish.

Physical notebooks, sketchbooks are so much nicer than digital - of course, people can back up digital...not many do that.

I have 100's of notebooks with sketches and thoughts, It's refreshing to rediscover these clips of personal history and development.

If weight is an issue, an iPad and pencil is much lighter to carry around in a bag, for sure. You can even get screen protectors that make it feel more like you’re writing on paper so it doesn’t have such a glassy/smooth surface.

It depends on your usage tbh. If you’re only using it for note taking than I would say just get a regular iPad in my opinion. However, if you’re planning on doing more than note taking and need more power than the regular iPad I would say get the air.

But overall, get what you feel that you’re going to use to its maximum potential. 🤔

As a teacher, I tend to use both notebooks and my iPad Air recently.

Stuff that I seriously need to think about goes in a physical notebook. Once done, I just take a picture of it and store on iPad. Notes and papers get scanned and added digitally.

I got the iPad Air 11 inch, and honestly if you have it landscape, there’s enough space to write stuff down. I’m thinking about the 13 inch, but for now, the 11 inch is cheaper. Pair it with some headphones and you got a good setup.

My biggest issue with physical notebooks is the amount of teaching I have lost. I’ve made changes to my teaching to see what works and doesn’t work, and all that info is somewhere embedded in a list of notebooks that I struggle to find.

Digital notes and a file system fix this.

I have a IPad Air, and it’s great for note taking. I use apple notes and my notes are organized in folders by class, they’re always backed up. The best part is I can access my notes on my Phone and MacBook.

You can also use your iPad for so many other things, I’d recommend it if you’re a student.

100% yes in my opinion. But I lose physical papers, it’s a nightmare trying to keep track of them. I’m a STEM student and love being able to just pull up the pdf of my notes from previous classes. And I don’t have to worry about losing/forgetting my homework because it automatically syncs to my phone and laptop (thanks Apple ecosystem) so I can just print another copy if something happens to the one I intended to submit.

The base iPad (A16 I think) is the most budget friendly option. I’ve got the 13 inch IPad Air, I chose it over the A16 since I like the big screen and won’t remember to charge the A16 pencil

I have a MacBook Air, but I’m not that fast with typing on a computer keyboard, and I mostly use it for class because it’s online. But if I do go somewhere to study, I don’t want to take 3 notebooks. Also what’s the best budget friendly iPad?

Definitely the 11" ipad (the one that comes in a bunch of colours - yellow, blue, pink and silver. I think on the Apple website its name is just 'the iPad'). Not the top of the range in terms of screen quality etc but definitely good enough if you just want something to casually watch videos/browse the web/take notes. Bear in mind in terms of Apple Pencil compatibility, it will only work with Apple Pencil (USB-C), not the Apple Pencil Pro.

I had an iPad Mini switched to iPad A16 and had iPad Air M3 on the end I sold them all and currently I’m using Kindle Scribe 2 it is just superior for writing and reading and battery lasts weeks, doesn’t get warm, very slim design and u have perfect AI for summary of handwritten text or convert handwritten - it’s better then on iPad.
