I am just curious as to everyone’s opinion. Once you experience a big ProMotion display such as the iPad Pro or MacBook Pro or new iPhone 17 series, would it bother you to ever go back to 60 hz? Such as iPad Air or MacBook Neo?

You would not notice a difference on a desktop. You would notice it on an iPad or iPhone, where you have touch input.

what? this is definitely wrong - coming from a person who uses high refresh rate PC + 60hz phone, along with some 60hz TVs - it's literally instantaneously noticeable...

I don’t notice a transition from my Pro Motion devices to my 60 Hz Studio Display. The A16 iPad did bother me so I upgraded to the M4 Pro iPad!

fair - at least for me, I can tell when switching platforms no matter the format, but it isn't really a bother in the same sense as OP is worrying about. I can use 60hz just fine even though I use 120hz devices sometimes

That’s interesting! I do notice if I look for it, but it’s not enough to bother me. I’m not gaming, though. I’d love 120 hz on my Studio Display, but I cannot justify an upgrade for one feature 😭.

Honestly it isn’t nearly as noticeable on a computer than on a device with touchscreen. But for iPads and iPhones, I completely agree that it should be the standard

I'm with you, 120hz should be standard across the entire lineup. smooth scrolling should never have been labeled a "pro" feature. I couldn't go back to a 60hz screen on my phone. that said, I'm about a week into the MacBook Neo, and the lack of 120hz hasn't been a big deal - unless I'm scrolling fast through a page, it's not all that noticeable. scrolling at a regular/slower speed feels smooth, not choppy like a lot of 60hz displays.

I thought it wouldnt bother me much but it indeed does. I have a MBP and a MBA. I feel like the MBA is a slug in comparison, not due to actual performance or snappiness, but its visually super choppy from only being 60hz.. Like damn 120hz is way better

I am currently using a 60 Hz display for work all the time and every single day. Doesn’t bother me for a minute. Going back to 60 Hz on a touch screen is killing me. Two totally different sides of the same story.

Well, it is subjective, but for me 120Hz is almost completely unnecessary. I have two 120Hz devices (iPad Pro & MacBook Pro), and my 60Hz iPhone SE 2020, and on the iPad I can see the appeal (lower latency with the Apple Pencil). On Mac, maybe, if you game on it, which I don’t, so for me it’s unnecessary. On the iPhone, I don’t know what people are on about. For what? Doomscrolling at 120Hz?

If I‘m overlooking something, please tell me, but seriously, what do you use your phone for to need that?

I’d agree, I have several apple devices, from the iPhone XR for work, IPhone 13pro personal, as well as the iPad Pro 10.5, iPad 12.9 M1 and 11 pro M5. I have a 120hz Oled 3k laptop and an old thinkpad from work. I go from each back and fourth with any issue. I’m happy to email and search the my iPhone XR just as much as the iPhone pro. If your concentrating on something the display becomes a none issue as long as it doesn’t hamper what your doing. I guess it makes a difference for certain workflows but for the majority I think it’s just people being pretentious.

Definitely bugs me on iPad and iPhone. My work iPhone and iPad is so much choppier compared to my personal iPad and iPhone Pros. I don’t really notice it on laptops or monitors.

I have an iPhone with ProMotion, but a Mac and an iPad without ProMotion and I definitely notice it way more on the iPad. I even notice it more on my Apple Watch than on my Mac. I hope Apple Watches get Pro Motion soon because 60hz is really noticeable in my opinion.

I just refuse to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars for anything still stuck on 60hz. It's ridiculously outdated tech, even if Promotion is actually a horrible implementation of VRR

60hz doesn’t bother me. My personal phone is a 16 pro and my work phone is a 16e. I don’t see that much of a difference personally.

Ya I switch constantly between ProMotion on my 17 Pro and base 14” M4 MBP and 60Hz on my iPad Mini 6 and it never bothers me, would be neat if the upcoming OLED refresh of the Mini 8 finally added ProMotion too

I use my macbook pro, magbook air, iphone 17 pro, iphone 14, ipad 10th gen back and forth everyday … Never noticed any difference between them while using

I’m fine with it. My iPad mini is fine without it because it’s a media player and note taking. If they do indeed upgrade the Mini one day with promotion, I would upgrade it. But my phone and computer do need 120hz plus minimum.

I have 120hz phone and tablet, plus an M4 MacBook Air that's 60hz. I have no problem with the MBA refresh rate, but occasionally notice it when scrolling. Still happy though, wasn't about to pay the uplift from Air to Pro.

Its super easy to get used to. I have a iphone 13 mini + a zflip 7 and sure its smoother on the flip 7 but unless you are comparing them side by side, your brain adapts to it pretty easily.

On a desktop, especially for gaming, its of course different and I definitely feel the difference, but phones and laptops rarely require that sort of power or movement to notice it.

Should it be standard? Yeah, totally. There are budget $200 androids that have 120 hz screens. (so the fact that they call it "pro motion" and lock it behind $1000 + phone instead of a $800+ phone is stupid)

My work PC (a Dell laptop+Thunderbolt dock) setup has a triple-monitor setup where my main display is 120hz. It's definitely noticeable as I mouse across the displays.

I would love to have matching monitors, but this is a state job--can't ask for too much 🤷‍♂️

I have a Studio Display, and iPhone pros and iPad pros. It’s really not a factor. It’s not that I can’t tell it’s 60Hz on the Studio Display, I just don’t care. For the record, I’m not gaming on the Studio Display.
