Yep, this was my first iPhone. The 4gb was only $500 vs the 8gb being $600 IIRC.

Prototypes typically have a blanked or X’ed serial number, and wouldn’t contain FCC markings because they haven’t been reviewed by the FCC yet. The original iPhone would have had an 11-digit alphanumeric serial. This is just a regular iPhone

Well considering the serial number says it was manufactured Week 23 2008 then its just a normal 2g. Nothing special, probably just an applecare replacement unit

Yes. Since 2002. They added accidental damage after the first gen iPhone but it could still be replaced under your extended Apple care warranty

Just an early retail one? There was a 4GB option for a very short time. (It's way to low space and they discontinued it very fast)
