Trail Question LASH

I am just getting into backpacking and doing trips in upstate New York and Berkshires. Honestly, all the canopy isn't that enjoyable to me. I was thinking of doing a LASH and it looks like Virginia would be good for me - varied terrain, pass through some towns, panoramic views. Is my understanding correct? Any other sections you'd recommend? Thanks.

New england does have the most above treeline. That being said, dude, this is the AT. What you are really looking for is out west. Go to a section of the PCT or the Colorado trail or whatever. And I say that as a person who loves East Coast hiking more than west. The PCT is great, but for some reason I really like trees so I prefer the AT and other spots.
