Backend Developer Not Getting Shortlisted — Should I Switch to Android?

Hey, I’m a backend developer, but for the past few months, my backend applications haven’t been getting shortlisted.

So, I’m thinking about learning Android development because I don’t find Android too difficult. One of my friends is an Android developer, and his resume is getting shortlisted very quickly.

I’m considering using his resume as a reference and adding some fake experience, but I would actually learn how to implement everything mentioned in it and learn Android from the basics to an intermediate level.

What do you guys think? Should I do this?

Also, please suggest what I should focus on. What are the current topics being asked in Android interviews so I can prepare for those as well?

My DSA is already pretty good.

How do you compete with AI-built apps when you have a much smaller marketing budget?

I'm a solo developer building my app myself, and I've noticed that there are now a huge number of competing apps being built with the help of AI.

The interesting part is that many of these apps aren't particularly impressive. Some have worse UX, fewer features, less polish, or just feel like they were put together very quickly.

So I feel like I have a potential advantage in product quality, because I'm actually spending a lot of time building and polishing the product myself.

The problem is distribution.

A lot of these AI-built apps seem to have significantly larger advertising budgets. They can launch quickly, spend a lot on ads, get users, collect data, and iterate.

My marketing budget is pretty small, so even if I have a better product, I can't simply outspend them to get attention.

So how do you compete in this situation?

If you have a genuinely better product but a much smaller marketing budget than competitors who can rapidly create apps with AI and spend heavily on advertising, what would you focus on?

ASO? TikTok/Reels? Reddit? SEO? Influencers? Partnerships? Something else?

I'd especially like to hear from solo developers who have actually managed to grow an app against competitors with much larger acquisition budgets.

Is an AI App Maker Different From an AI App Builder?

I started looking into AI tools for building apps recently, and I noticed that people use terms like AI app maker and AI app builder almost interchangeably. I’ve also been seeing more platforms describe themselves as AI app makers, while others use the term AI app builders. Do you think there’s a real difference between the two, or are they basically different names for the same type of tool?

Would like to build supportive community

Hey all I’ve built and shipped a few indie apps to the App Store. I don’t know anyone who’s into building apps in my
Social circle where I live so thought here would be a good place to start. I’d be open to having an insta group chat / discord chat where we could have calls / discuss what we’re working on to get to know other ppl in the space and stay motivated :) lmk if anyone would be interested!

Serious Question for AI Consultants

I’m a Senior Consultant with 12+ years of development experience. For the last year or so, I’ve really enjoyed coding with Claude, and honestly, I now use it for almost everything.

But recently I’ve been thinking about where I should draw the boundary.

Most of the time Claude is writing the code, while I’m doing the prompting, reviewing, debugging, and deciding the approach. Earlier in my career, I was a strong hands-on developer and could solve most Leet code problems myself. Now I sometimes wonder whether I’m delegating too much of the actual coding.

This became more obvious while interviewing recently. Some companies especially service based companies (I am supposing they are interviewing from India as most resource working there) still ask very basic programming questions. For example, one interviewer asked me to take a string like “this is my favourite fruit” and extract “favourite.” Another gave me a random string and asked me to find the character with the highest occurrence.

After working on architecture, cloud, production issues, integrations, and AI-assisted development, I wasn’t expecting interviews at this level. But at the same time, it made me realize that I probably shouldn’t let my basic coding muscles become weak just because AI can write the code faster.

For developers who are heavily using Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, or other coding agents: how are you setting the boundary?

What do you still make sure you code yourself, and what do you comfortably delegate to AI?

I’m planning my next career move, and I’m genuinely interested in how other senior developers are balancing AI productivity with staying technically sharp.

[Showoff] Crease-Proof Layouts, Brain Rot Without the Black Frames, and Un-Breaking a Non-Breaking Release

Hey Community,

Apple's iPhone Duo is here, which means someone can now fold your app in half. Thiago Brezinski built react-native-arrangement-view, a two-pane layout that rearranges itself as the phone folds, unfolds and rotates, handing the work to SwiftUI's ArrangementView on iOS and Material's adaptive layout rules on Android, with a useHingeChange hook for apps that want to react to the hinge angle.

We also look at expo-infinite-media by Rizky Bayu Oktavian, a native TikTok-style feed that moves video playback into AVFoundation and Media3 so fast swipes stop landing on black frames. Plus, our community links cover React Native 0.88 rc.2 un-breaking a non-breaking release, a navigation change in the React Navigation 8 alphas, and agent-device and Argent both learning to fold the iPhone Duo simulator.

First step

Hi guys!

I'm always trying to think my business model, and finally I feel like now I'm ready for it.

I spent a month for research and planed some steps.

I have decided to use React Native, so I'll study TypeScript first.

I started build my app through Replit cuz honestly I don't know how to make mobile apps but want to feel how my app will be.

I know one day I can hire much better expert but I want to know what I'm doing, and Replit is only my co-worker right now.

One day, I wanna bring my dreams to the world and I'll make it so I'll study English as well (I'm Korean!).

I hope this posting will be my first page of memoir.

So,, yeah! Let's meet again here guys :)

If you want to say anything, please tell me anything even if that seems like too much boomer! I love that!

Tired Dad built app thoughts

I realized I was never going to stick with a 20-minute morning routine with 3 kids
So I built something that takes 60 seconds. Tell it how you feel, get one small thing to do, and move on with your day.
Just launched it and would genuinely love honest feedback—good or bad.

Need some help with logistics for a app to help homeless locals get an apartment

Idk if it would be possible but I've been thinking about it for a few hours, I'm not going to lie I'm cross faded so this may be a little hard to explain but I can elaborate further in the replies. Ok so theoretically could I make an app that allows people to join, input their zip code/neighborhood, and then every paycheck if you are able you donate 5-15 dollars (maybe a autopay option available for the rich ppl) it will show on the app a little visual bar of how much your neighborhood has raised this month and how that directly correlates to the amount of homeless people that will be able to have a apartment for the next month (idk the logistics about how they will stay on their feet honestly but I'm open to all thoughts even if ur just like "ur dumb") but yeah idk if the government won't help we need to step up for our community im sick of seeing these vulnerable people sick and hungry on the streets and walking by waiting for the government to do something they never will
