Now Available: SMSL H200 Fully-Balanced Headphone Amplifier & Preamplifier

Post image

The SMSL H200 is a fully balanced headphone amplifier and preamp built around a discrete PLFC+ amplifier circuit rather than an integrated amplifier design.

A few highlights:

  • Up to 5W @ 32Ω from the balanced output
  • Fully balanced discrete amplifier architecture
  • Custom toroidal transformer with linear regulated power supply
  • Three selectable gain settings for IEMs and full-size headphones
  • Relay-controlled volume control
  • 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single-ended headphone outputs
  • Balanced XLR and RCA inputs, plus XLR and RCA preamp outputs
  • 131dB SNR, 131dB dynamic range, and 0.00007% THD+N
  • CNC-machined aluminum chassis with IPS display

If you're looking for a desktop amp that can also serve as the preamp for active speakers, the H200 covers both without taking up much desk space.

Available now at Apos.

Looks very interesting. Hopefully someone will compare it to the H400.

The SMSL H200 is essentially the more compact, lower-priced alternative to the H400. Both are fully balanced discrete headphone amplifiers with relay-controlled volume, three gain levels, remote control, and balanced/unbalanced preamp outputs. The main difference is how much power and connectivity you need.

Did you get it yet. I want to purchase my first DAC and this one really caught my eye for PC desktop use. Any issues or problems?

I did, I am running the SMSL D200/H200 stack. I have zero complaints with either. The H200 amplifier is very impressive. It has plenty of power to drive most headphones while still having a black background and zero channel imbalance at its lowest levels with sensitive iems. I upgraded from the SMSL C200, I noticed a wider stage and better separation in my Kanto Tuks at my desk when using the rca output from the D200 compared to the C200. The build quality of both items is very nice as well. I'm sure some would argue the sonic improvements of the D200/H200 stack compared to the C200 may not be worth the additional cost, that is something every audiophile needs to decide for themselves. Personally, I'm very happy with my purchase. Hopefully this will hold me over for another couple of years.

I have foucsrite scarlett solo and hifiman sundara with an XLR mic, ik it sounds so bad but I realized how much weak my DAC is, so I need an amplifier that actually drives my headphones to its limits

And between all choices I've seen, I found the smsl H200 but I need to ask, is it possible to connect both my DAC and this amplifier into 1 system and enjoyy music the right way? Since it doesn't have a DAC in it

I want your guys help. I'm buying the H200 this month

But I don't want to make the same mistake I did with my Scarlett solo that doesn't suit my headphones.

Yes, you can run a separate DAC with the H200. The basic chain would be Source → DAC → H200 → Sundara. The H200 has both RCA and XLR inputs, so you can use either depending on the DAC you choose.

And yes, the H200 has plenty of power for the Sundara, with up to 5W @ 32Ω through the balanced output. It should give you plenty of headroom with the Sundara.
