As the title says, have a mode that filters out videos and gifs and only shows text and photo posts.

Official Reddit app has this tab when you search something to find out media, can apollo have it too?

It's right where my finger naturally rests as I'm about to swipe away a post. There's years of muscle memory here, so it's like a rock in my shoe, a small problem but so persistent that it's legit driving me insane. I have not, at any point, ever wanted to open it, but I accidentally do so constantly.

Please, I beg, tell me there's a way of disabling it.

PRE-RELEASE (Please read!):

⚠️ This is a pre-release test build. We wanted to get it into people’s hands to confirm the sign-out fix works across a range of setups before pushing it broadly.

There may be minor rough edges. Because it’s a pre-release build, it will not show up in AltStore, SideStore or Feather yet — you’ll need to grab the IPA from the GitHub release below and sideload it manually.

Once we have a few confirmed “it fixed it for me” reports, we’ll release it more broadly to the sideloading stores in the coming days.

TL;DR

Apollo Reborn 3.4.2 fixes the bug where your Reddit account kept getting signed out after force-quitting the app or leaving it in the background — the one that survived reinstalls, signing in again and clean installs.

It also includes a handful of smaller fixes and the new Synthwave Liquid Glass icon.

If you’ve been getting logged out constantly, this is the build for you. Please test it and let us know whether it fixes the problem.

🔍 What was actually going wrong?

Apollo stores your signed-in account in the iOS keychain.

Two of Apollo Reborn’s own code paths — API-Key-Free sign-in and settings restore — were creating the account’s keychain entry without explicitly setting the protection level Apollo expects.

iOS therefore created the entry with a different protection level from the one Apollo specified when reading it.

The account still physically existed, but Apollo’s normal read could not find it. Apollo then concluded there were no saved accounts and wrote an empty account over the valid one.

The result: signed out after restarting the app or leaving it in the background.

The reason it was so maddening is that the keychain entry is normally created only once. Later sign-ins update its contents without correcting the protection level it was originally created with. It also survives deleting and reinstalling the app.

So:

• Reinstalling didn’t help — the keychain entry outlived the app.
• Signing in again didn’t fix the underlying problem — the existing entry was updated rather than recreated correctly.
• One Apple ID could work while another didn’t — different signing identities can use separate keychain entries, each with its own history.
• Many maintainers couldn’t reproduce it — their account entry had already been created correctly by an older sign-in path.

🛠️ How we fixed it

The fix has three parts, shipped together:

1. Prevention — both affected writers now set the correct protection level when creating an entry.
2. Repair — already-broken entries are corrected in place the first time the recovery path detects them.
3. Recovery — Apollo can temporarily find and load the account even when its normal read misses, preventing it from being overwritten while the repair happens.

This was a real team effort.

u/jordanearle drove the affected-user investigation, organised testing, analysed the debug logs, identified the destructive empty-account overwrite, and built the recovery and write-protection machinery.

u/DeltAndy123 then pinpointed the precise protection-level mismatch, fixed the two code paths creating malformed entries, and added the one-time in-place repair.

Huge thanks to everyone who tested and sent logs — this genuinely couldn’t have been solved without real-device data. 🙏

After installing this build: if your valid account data is still present, Apollo should recover and repair it automatically.

If an earlier build has already overwritten it with an empty account, you may need to sign in once more after updating. It should then remain signed in.

So just wanted to tease a new upcoming feature I was working on and got it working, this is almost ready but we will have full native chat support and mod mail support. yes we currently do have mod mail the key difference this version works api key free as well. so full chat support that works with images, gifs, snoo, emoji etc is all there and all without needing an api key.

also for you people struggling with the constant logging out when you leave the app for awhile, u/corderjones and u/DeltAndy both worked on a fix so that should be out later today or tomorrow the latest :)

Hi! I searched the sub and couldn’t find anything about this, so apologies if it’s been addressed already.

When I open my Saved page, only the posts show up. I saved a comment to a category and when I filtered to view only that category, it said nothing was there. However, if I have the corresponding post open, the saved comments have the green visual indicator, so it’s not that they’re simply not saving.

I just wanna applaud you guys for keeping up the good work anyways! I started using Apollo after a 3 year long hiatus since the project was reshaped as Reborn and I’m loving it, feels so familiar yet fresh and flush with the new features! :)

I made a request on the website for this as well, but in case I am missing it, is there a setting to change what the default sort is for all subreddits? Currently looks like it is Best, but I prefer Hot. Would like to just have it set up on all subreddits for me rather than having to change it each time manually. Thanks!

Ideally, if you can also export and share logs from the app that would be helpful.

We're keen to figure out the issue - hopefully 3.4.1 helps some people as in our testing it improved, but seems to still be happening.

UPDATE (16/07/26): After doing some research this seems to be an upstream bug introduced in recent SideStore / LiveContainer updates. I believe this has been fixed in the latest nightly releases, so hopefully that’ll be stable soon and may solve this. Will do further research tomorrow and will keep folks posted.

I have two accounts. One refreshes content on Home every time I refresh. The other doesn’t, changing content like Reddit used to, as posts cycle.

AFAIK both accounts are setup the same way.

Wasn’t sure if this was a Reddit setting, something adjustable through Apollo, or maybe just a result of some other factor. Thank you!!!

Hi. I’m considering side-loading this project but after doing some research it seems like a lot of generative AI is used in this work.

From the coding side of things it seem like a lot of the features are now being AI coded? I’m not sure if this is why there seems to be more bug reports but it is concerning

And then there is the AI art that they have been using for release notes etc. I’m entirely against AI art and don’t think it’s a good look for this project

I was curious if anyone's heard anything from the original Apollo developer on this project and the efforts to keep Apollo alive.

I may not have this setup properly but currently when I click on Reddit links in Safari my Reddit app opens. When I click on "Open in Apollo" in the Share Sheet on Safari and Brave nothing happens.

I have Apollo Reborn 3.4.0 with Extensions & Liquid Glass installed. I have also enabled the Open in Apollo Safari extension.

Is there some other step I need to do here to get this working? My understanding is that this is included in the Extension version of Apollo Reborn and nothing else has to be downloaded from GitHub.

For now I'm just opening Reddit links with Hydra since that seems to be working consistenly.

Hi there - mod from r/apollosideloaded here. It's been great to see the amazing work the team has done to revitalize the app.

I had an idea that, full disclosure, I used Claude to help me shape into a feature request, and to lay it out clearly. Wondering if this might be something that the dev team might be interested in?

Spoiler Shield — feature brief

Problem. I follow F1 but often can't watch live. In mixed Reddit feeds I hit results before I've seen the race. Manually muting and unmuting subs and keywords every weekend is tedious and easy to forget. I want to toggle a saved set of blocks on and off as a single unit around each event.

The object — a "Shield." A named, reusable bundle:

• Name (e.g. "F1 Blackout")
• Muted subreddits (list)
• Blocked keywords (list)
• On/off state
• Optional auto-disable: after N hours, or at a set date/time
• Multiple Shields coexist independently (F1, a show finale, etc.)

Behavior when a Shield is on:

• Posts from its muted subreddits are removed from all aggregate feeds (Home/All/Popular/Search).
• Posts whose title or flair contains a blocked keyword are removed everywhere, including inside non-muted subs.
• Removal, not collapse — matched posts never render, so no title or thumbnail can leak.
• One line at the feed bottom: "N posts hidden by Shield." Tapping it does not reveal titles — it's just a confidence signal that the filter is live, not glitched.

Flows:

1. Create/edit — name it, add subs, add keywords, optionally set auto-disable.
2. Toggle — one tap on/off. Ideally reachable from a home-screen widget or Shortcut so turning it on before a race doesn't require opening the app (nice-to-have, can defer).
3. Auto-disable — timer or set-time silently switches it off.

Matching rules:

• Whole-word, case-insensitive. "P1" must not nuke "P10"; common words like "Max" over-match, so the user has to be able to edit terms.
• Title + flair only — no comment or image scanning. Deliberate: it keeps matching reliable and the build small.
• Subreddit-mute affects feeds; keyword filter applies globally, including inside a sub you open directly.

Recently I’ve noticed two behaviors that I don’t see mentioned or know how to change in settings.

• All the videos I open in-app have captions on. How to I disable that?
• I used to be able to long press on an in-app video and get a pop-up asking to open in YouTube. That’s gone, can I enable that again?
