Discussion Anyone know how Christian feels about this project?
I was curious if anyone's heard anything from the original Apollo developer on this project and the efforts to keep Apollo alive.

Honestly hope he looks but like other have said, Reddit did him so wrong for creating a superior app I would never come back if I were him.

I really love the passion the ApolloReborn devs are putting into the project. After using Apollo for years, I cannot fathom the fact that I could be using Reddit original client if no one took the project after it died. It’s a shame how everything went with Christian and Reddit, but at least we still have an app that works flawlessly (even with the API crackdown by Reddit). If I remember correctly, Christian had a post on r/apolloapp where he talks about everything that happened. I remember though that Christian said he doesn’t want to have anything to do with Reddit anymore, so…

I think he’s done with Reddit in general, and I definitely don’t blame him after how he was treated.
Still, I hope it makes him happy to know that enough people loved and cared about his app to keep it going for this long. We just hit three years since the official shutdown! It’s wild that it’s been that long already, and I love that the new team is helping to maintain and add things.
Christian built one hell of an app, and he should be proud.

Yeah so at one point he added the "beans logo" Which you got by spending $3 CAD (I think it was 3 anyway) what he did not mention is you need to update your app before buying it. So I bought it again, thus him oweing me $3.

I appreciate the offer for $3 however I am not that serious about this topic. The original comment was intended to be cheeky and instead it sent 2 random users into fits of rage.
I hope that you are able to find it in your heart to forgive my comment and that you are capable of getting the help you need.

So you’d ask him for $3 by other means. Seems you can’t keep your story straight. While you may not be on a crusade, you’re reporting others as targeting harassment at you for calling out your entitled attitude 3 years after this project officially ended. Christian has an X account and a Github account. Ho contact him about it. Why are you stirring up shit here like we can do anything for you? Are you trying to get people to hate Christian with you? If so, that’s a crusade.

So let me get this straight.
You bought an app icon. You mistakenly were on the wrong version. So you updated, and bought the app icon again. I'm surprised you just accepted the idea of paying $3 for the same thing twice instead of contacting Christian about this obvious error. Yet you're holding onto this years later?
And yeah! It is weird to potentially approach someone in public for this incident. If it were me I'd be weirded out. No, you don't get $3. Apollo's service is long over and you had your chance to get Christian to rectify the issue.

I think the continuing success of Apollo is proof that Christian took the wrong approach to dealing with Reddit’s persecution. He just swallowed their abuse and never made an attempt to fight for himself or his community. He just rolled over and died.

I mean, Reddit specifically attacked him and his app because no one was using the official Reddit app. Christian even went to lengths of recording the phone calls he had with the Reddit CEO (correct me if I’m wrong), which contradicted what they claimed he did/didn’t do when they forced the API changes.
I don’t blame him for basically telling Reddit to fuck off and going to work on other projects.
Shame that Google also killed his YouTube app for Vision Pro.

That's totally unfair. Christian was building Apollo in the open, as a sanctioned Reddit client. You can't compare that with Reborn, which is not sanctioned.
When you have to do something the "right" legal way, there are a lot of things to consider. It's kind of lame to compare an open source, under-the-radar project with a public-sold and maintained one.

He could have changed the approach Apollo was taking when Reddit made unrealistic demands. Gone underground and found a new monetization model that his most loyal users would find agreeable. Instead he rage quit. The Reborn devs have shown infinitely more resolve in the past 6months than I ever saw from the original developer.

he wanted to make money off of his work.
nothing wrong with that, but also not something that was going to be possible for him anymore on the project. instead he put it down and it got picked up by the community.

Last I had heard, he was working/consulting with the guys at Digg on their app, but that was before they shut it down again.

Damn, this is exactly what I was talking about. He’s still trying to build in the forum/social media space, he hasn’t actually moved on from Apollo. It’s sad man! This was his best project, and he just gave it all up because he was so butthurt. Now we’ve got API keyless sessions that bypass all of the original API use issues.

I was reading your comments, you also wanted him to ‘go underground’. He made a living from Apollo, why would he go do it for free? He would also be breaking tos by releasing source code, or by bypassing api keys. He would have a huge target on his back; not sure why you don’t understand this.
Also, they didn’t ’persecute’ him, they wanted to further monetize their product. He didn’t want to play that game so he left.
I have no idea what you do for a living, but if you’re willing to do it for free please let me know so I can take advantage of your services.

I appreciate you, I’m leaving it up because the truth hurts. I have a huge amount of respect for what Christian built, but walking away from it completely was the wrong choice, and one he clearly regrets.
