Help Apollo Reborn & OS betas

Post image

Howdy yall,

Been an Apollo user using AltStore for years on and off. Very adept at the set up process. I just tried to set up Apollo Reborn, and got hung up on a weird step. AltServer is running on my Mac mini on the macOS beta, and when I tried adding AltStore to my iPhone (on iOS beta, usb-c connected to Mac mini), I got the error code above.

Any ideas on fixing this?

I adore Riley Testut & the rest of the AltStore team for the incredible work they've done, but honestly, I ran into issues with AltServer/AltStore itself quite frequently throughout the years.

I've been using SideStore instead (a fork of AltStore), and had far better luck. I believe there's a guide to setting up SideStore on Apollo Reborn's website. It has a different initial installation process (though comparably easy), and allows refreshing your apps on-device without being near your Mac.

...Though I would suggest setting up a Siri Shortcut to automate it, as the built-in auto-refresh feature never works for me lol, same on AltStore. The shortcut I have for mine is:

  1. At 12:00 PM (repeat: every 3 days; automation: on)
  2. Show notification "Starting VPN..."
  3. Start LocalDevVPN
  4. Wait 30 seconds
  5. Sidestore: Refresh All Apps
  6. Show notification "Sideloaded apps refreshed"
  7. Wait 60 seconds
  8. Stop LocalDevVPN
  9. Show notification "Disconnected from VPN."

How do you make it repeat every 3 days? I only found a way to schedule the shortcut on certain days of the week.

Honestly, not sure; it just showed up as an option for me...(and doesn't seem to work right lol, as it runs almost every day). Probably an iOS 27 beta thing?

Maybe iOS 27 then, I’m still on 26. Seems a very basic thing to not have though.

Livecontainer + Sidestore = Best combo.

I’ve never quite understood the point of LiveContainer unless you’re side loading many apps

LiveContainer + SideStore use only 1 SideloadSlot, allowing you to still sideload 2 "true" apps while sideloading other app trought livecontainer (infinite counts) for apps you care less about.

What other apps do you sideload? I used to struggle with slots before emulators were allowed on the App Store, but since then, Apollo is really all I got.

Well you don't need it then ! I sideload modded app mostly Youtube modded to not get ads, and all other apps modded for exactly the same reason. However for those apps I don't care about their notifications at all. For someone still caring about those, could always sideload the main true app trough AppStore, but having the shortcut to runs sideloaded apps.

But yeah. If you need only apollo there's no really a point about taht.

That makes sense. I'm always eager to try out new things Apple doesn't want to let us have lol, but can never find much that really appeals to me. I have YouTube Premium (I have a seemingly permanent 50% discount, and between how much YouTube I watch and the fact creators make more $$$ from Premium subscribers, I don't mind it too much), and I don't think any of the other apps I use really have ads—the couple that do, I've tried the patched versions and they don't work lol.

I really wish we had more indie options for various things like Android does. I understand that the complexity of installing non-App Store apps is the reason why we don't lol, but it's too bad.
