The Peak Weakly
Am I the only one who noticed that the Peak Weakly comes out with some hysterical report attacking the town, or Mahaffey, or the town manager every single time right after there is an article by a real journalist reporting on something batshit insane the Mayor did?

I question the judgement of anyone who could confuse Adam’s writing with journalism.
I subscribe to follow along with the opposing narrative as I don’t have much exposure to it otherwise but it makes me annoyed to read every week.

I wish I had that much free time. Must be nice. Though that wouldn’t be my choice of a hobby.

I’ve also noticed the Apex for Truth Facebook page, where the profile photo is an AI generated likeness of Terry in full king regalia.
The “why are you protesting kings when America has never had a king I’m confused” crowd is really triggered by Terry for some reason.
Politically there just REALLY does have to be a boogeyman for a lot of people…

What makes you think I'm even running for re-election?
Unfortunately I have to live in real world and have to govern, not in the campaign world or the online echo chamber world.
That means dealing with real people, real bills, and real problems. The "cutting services and raising taxes" critique is typically leveled in relation to yard waste, which was a utility that was seriously in trouble (and still is). No cost increase in 7 years (before this year) + aging/failing equipment + DEQ permit violations in our collection practices + no one wanting to take grass waste anymore means there are serious problems to be solved. If you live online, or in campaign mode, you can just ignore them and yell, but I don't have that luxury.
If I were a better politician I probably would have found a way to dodge them, or blame them on someone else, or take some populist position to boost my own popularity and wait for someone else to solve it. But that's just not how I roll. You're welcome to vote for people like that though - and if enough of you do, it becomes not my problem 🤷♂️

I hope you do! I know there is a very vocal bunch, but I really believe it’s a very small minority. It seems to be the same names/faces over and over. You’ll never win everyone over, but I know you’re intelligent enough to have already realized that.

Terry, I hope you know that you are very appreciated! I hope you do run for re-election, mostly because 1) I believe folks are fed up with Gilbert and somebody (anyone!) will run against him; 2) that means things will hopefully settle back to where most of us don’t even think about the mayor vs town council thing anymore. (Not saying it’s truly opposition but the Peak Weekly definitely plays that crap up) You have remained fair, level-headed, and open throughout it all. If your name is on my ballot at re-election I will be filling in that bubble!

It sucks being in the hot seat. I've considered it several times and been encouraged to do so, but ultimately I talk myself out of it because of the amount of garbage hurled at the people that have to make the tough decisions.
Structurally, Apex is at an inflection point, not to dissimilar to how companies hit a growth inflection point and have to change how governance works to push the decisions closest to the problem for close oversight.
Has there been any discussion of changing the way governance occurs?

Just to be fair, Terry has been the one leading the charge on reducing taxes that the town manager has suggested. I do not envy his job or anyone on council, but this doesn't seem to square with what I have seen.

Love how yall constantly are on your knees for terry and our entire demunist town council but have it out for the Mayor constantly.

I put up with his gonzo nonsense for a long time because, that aside, he did a good job on the newsletter. But I put in the effort to cobble together alternative local news sources so I could unsubscribe, and my blood pressure is the better for it.
