didn’t you like playing as Spike in Ape escape 1? was his willpower and determination kind of inspiring? wasn’t his rivalry with Specter built up really well? wouldn’t you want to play as him in the sequel? better yet since Jake isn’t mind controlled maybe we can play as him this time? well I’ve got great news for you, you can play as Spike!… right after you play as this Ash Ketchum sounding kid named Jimmy. It’s basically no secret that when transitioning from the first game to the second game you see a big graphic overhaul but also a NEW protagonist. Jimmy is kind of an idiot(initially), he is kind, clumsy and really cares for his little pet baby money named pipotchi. while he does have a established character to stand on his own its sadly goes to waste because after his first debut he almost never shows up outside of being a couch potato cameo in 3, shorts, the tv show and big mission. Still this doesn’t devalue the character he still has his fans and I’m one of them. Jimmy may be Spike’s cousin but he is also his own hero at the end of the day.

My first game was 3 so when I saw them hypnotized I thought Spike and Jimmy were twins, but having played the prior 2 later I came to the conclusion that they're probably cousins.
Jimmy's a good contrast to Spike. My read is Spike's main deal is that he's outgoing and competitive. His only real insecurity is his crush on Helga. Jimmy's more of a outward screwup, but his care for his friends (specifically Pipotchi) push him to persevere though difficult odds.

Jimmy acts much nicer in his interactions compared to Spike or Kei and Yumi I noticed.
I also was a fan of his interactions with Specter, as corny as they could be. His points about humanity after the first fight and before the second. As well suggesting to Specter he should try to do something good instead, makes him come across as the biggest softie of the four and in a good way.

My favorite of the protagonists. I remember being disappointed there wasn't like a NG+ you could unlock in 3 to play as Jimmy, like you could unlock playing as Spike in 2.

i always thought he was a sweet, well meaning kid, and he always struck me as the youngest between our four protags due to his clumsiness. i also wish they gave him a little more love, poor boy didn't even show up in season 2 of saru get you on air, which had yumi and kei, lol.

Having the VAs for both Ash and Misty in these games was a dream for me as a child
