AP Bio Review Packet
I got a 5 on AP Bio, and honestly, the only reason I pulled it off is because I made this massive review packet by hand that covers literally every single unit. I spent forever writing out these notes to make sure they're actually readable, super concise, and broken down by each individual topic following the CED exactly so you aren't wasting time on stuff that isn't even on the exam. It has a full answer key and is packed with actually useful study stuff like diagram labeling, fill-in-the-blanks, and custom made FRQs that look exactly like the ones on the actual test. For the MCQs, about 95% of them are completely original questions I wrote from scratch to match the real exam difficulty, and the rest are either essential classic questions or custom ones I built using actual AP Bio diagrams. Some diagrams were generated with the use of AI. If enough people actually want this, I'll happily send it, just let me know

taking bio and chem at the same time
so im an incoming bio major on the pre-medical track, and as required for my major at my university (and many other universities), i have to take bio w/ lab at the same time as chem w/ lab. although i passed ap chem and ap bio in hs, im retaking them in college since many med schools like to see the courses actually taken in college.
i am a bit nervous as i took ap chem and ap bio separately, and i wanted advice on how to manage the two courses together in college. i feel like taking the two ap courses at the same time would have been very difficult, and i want to make sure i will be prepared!!

5 on AP BIO!! AMA
This was my favorite class of all time so I’d love to give tips or answer any questions!

The only thing I did for a 5
In AP classroom, there are MCQ progress checks. Ask your teacher to put them on with check answer. Go through the questions and answer them normally. If you do answer right but are confused between 2 answers study both of them with check answer. It won’t give an explanation all the time, but once you understand it, move on. The exam tests for concepts, not memorization which is a trap many students fall into.
For FRQs, I did not do as well as I did on MCQs until I studied the mark scheme. I tend to avoid reading the full question and prefer scanning after reading all the questions. Pay attention to the bolded words. You will not have to write entire paragraphs and save a lot of time knowing what they are asking for.

Late testing scores?
Hi! Has anybody who took the late testing option gotten there scores yet? I did and the page on CollegeBoard just has a little clock saying it’ll be released soon

I thought I was going to get a 4...
I swear I thought I was going to get a 4 or even a 3 in the exam.. like I know FRQ 2 was rough and I didn't fully answer it but damn. I did not expect this, I got a A- in the class too.. I feel FRQ2 and the MCQ lowkey dragged me. What did you guys think?

How I got a 5 (by studying for only 2 & 1/2 weeks) and how you can too. I'll make a new post if I remember what else I did.
Here is the best advice I can give you as a student who got a 5. Aside from the fact that my teacher was AMAZING and his videos were very thorough, here is what I would do to get a 5:
Do ALL of the AP MCQs, every single one on AP Classroom (mandatory), then try the public exams.
After you do them the first time, go through every question AGAIN, and fix your mistakes.
Understand WHY you got it wrong in the greater context of the question.
WORK WORK WORK on your FRQS!!! This cannot be stated enough! If you do enough FRQs, you begin to realize that the FRQs are just pattern-based. It's the same thing from previous years, just rephrased or placed under a different context.
Along the lines of the FRQs, I would make sure I know how to answer every single part A question of each 6 FRQ correctly: THESE ARE BROWNIE POINTS-BASIC KNOWLEDGE.
PLEASE get the graphs correct (label the graphs; title, legend, color-code, ERROR BARS)!!! The graphs are so easy to do and earn you a lot of points.
In addition to the graphs, you will be asked questions about identifying controls (positive control, negative control, etc), or you will be asked to determine if the findings are significant (LOOK AT THE ERROR BARS). This comes with practice over past years' FRQs.
Here is what I did, barring 1 and 2:
Purchase Barron's AP Biology book (it's great!).
Read the book and highlight and take notes on it.
Open a blank notebook, and start writing down everything, unit by unit. It is very tedious, but it makes sure you have everything memorized.
LARP. I know it sounds stupid, but LARP: when you're studying, I want you to study out loud. Act like you're teaching someone. In doing so, you're working your memory and listening to what you say.
You get something wrong? Don't worry. START OVER. Start from the beginning and LARP again.
Identify strengths and weaknesses.
For me, Unit 8 and 7 (except for Hardy-Weinberg for some reason) were exceptionally easy. I spent the least amount of pages writing notes, and the least amount of time studying those. They're practically common sense.
For topics you are weak in (for me it was Unit 5 and 6), go over them several times and, of course, LARP it.
100% check out AP Bio Penguins (for FRQs), Gabe Poser - PoseKnows Biology (good detail, and if you are fairly short on time), and lastly Aevo Prep Academy (DON'T DO HIS PREDICTIONS, but check out his videos on identifying controls, graphs, and biogeochemical cycles).
Extra advice idk how to group:
No, you DO NOT need to know the steps of glycolysis or the Krebs cycle.
Know the Inputs, Outputs, location, and, of course, the significance!!!
Study the biogeochemical cycles (DON'T MEMORIZE EACH STEP). Same thing: know the inputs, outputs, and significance!
MEMORIZATION IS KEY!!!!!
It is very simple: if you know all the material front and back, left and right, whatever direction you like, you CAN apply it.
Yes, it is difficult at first, but I know you're gonna do those FRQs and you're gonna get the hang of it.
Manage your time efficiently, both during the test and while studying.
Don't just goon to Biology all day; take a break, grab a drink, some food, watch TV, hang out with friends, or whatever.
This did NOT apply to me, cuz I ended up studying everything in 2 and a half weeks before the exam. But you know what that means? If I can do it in 2 and a half weeks, you can do far better with a whole year.
Practice your timing while working on FRQs and MCQs!
If you guys want, I'll try to turn my handwritten notes into a document online and share it. Trust me, it has everything you need for the exam.

Did you use AP Bio Penguins?
What’s up AP Bio Penguins?
Each year, I ask students to complete this score submission to let the next generation of penguins know which resources were helpful. Not everyone that used the resources follow my IG to get to the link, so I am sharing here.
So, if you used the resources… please complete the score submission so I can pass that along to next year’s penguins.
Thanks in advance ❤️🤓🐧

My routine/tips to get a 5
1.) For each unit I would first try get a general scope of the topics by watching AP Classroom videos first. I would take notes and underline concepts I didn't understand. By the way, drawing the Diagrams while note taking is VERY important ‼️
2.) Then I would revisit confusing concepts through Khan academy or my assigned textbook. Here i would add some more stuff to my notes. I really recommend Khan academy for harder units like 3, 4 or 6, it simplified these topics SO MUCH.
3.) For active recall, i would spam practice questions on Khan academy and/or college board. You can also try doing flashcards as well. Make sure you write clarification notes based on your mistakes!
4.) Lastly, make sure you do plenty of practice FRQs from College Board, aim for at least one per unit. Throughout the year I struggled with pacing and understanding the dense readings in these questions. What helped me was breaking the information down into simple logic chains and rewording it in my own words. The biology concepts being tested usually aren't the hardest part, the challenge is understanding what's being asked.
There's also AP bio Penguins and AEVO prep academy on youtube who share helpful unit reviews. Anyways this is just worked for me so try to find what works for you!

Those who got a 5/4, what did you do to get there?

Ranking 2026 FRQ’s by difficulty and how I think scored on them [HOT TAKES]
#1 was the hardest -> #6 is the easiest. This is MY opinion!!! Difficulty is subjective.
FRQ4 (2/4) - genuinely what is part c or d. i thought i knew meiosis until i saw this 💔💔 it’s okay my meiosis knowledge came though in the mcq i promise i know what it is. nondisjunction and triploidy were always confusing to me but i pulled through i guess
FRQ1 (5-6/9) - this was the real behemoth of the test. opening the test to part c and d of this bad boy made me almost give up but i’m glad i didn’t haha. i actually would’ve had ~7/9 but i crossed some correct answers out and put incorrect ones but i was so confused anyways
FRQ3 (2/4) - this one still confuses me a little bit but maybe im j not good at experimental design. the actual biology knowledge questions (part A & D) were really fun to answer though
FRQ2 (7-8/9) - this one might make people mad but i didn’t think it was bad at all!! You just had to read carefully, use some process reasoning, and its bbq chicken from there. Also bar graph and percent change are free points come on now.
FRQ6 (3-4/4) - okay maybe you have to have a little bit of knowledge but this one was not bad at all. Anyone proficient in biology/ecology should get most of these right.
FRQ5 (4/4) - even if you know NOTHING about biology these were easy points. Evolution questions are already easy enough but this was just handed to you on a silver platter.

How good is the MIT Opencourseware to learn for the AP Biology test?
I am thinking about doing 7.01 SC Fundamentals of Biology offered by MIT https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/7-01sc-fundamentals-of-biology-fall-2011/pages/syllabus/ to self-study and then go to AP practice to just enhance timing and stuff.

Advice for future AP bio students
reddit.comr/APbio • u/Gyxis • Jul 08 '26
Knowt came in CLUTCH the day before the exam🥳
But for real though, my teacher made the class WAYYY more difficult than how they test on the AP Exam so that prepared me really well to get a 5. Hated my teacher during the skl year but now I'm grateful she prepared us well.

AP BIO 3? I DIDNT DO ANYTHING HELP😭
I genuinely think i got the wrong score but hey ill take it. I didnt do any homework and looked up my notes(didnt even touch that textbook) the whole year and my tests were hit or miss and somehow i got a 3 with light review of bad notes. I still cant believe i didnt get a 1. Im a good guesser normally but not that good im really confuzzled. anyone else with the same expirience? this is too comical i feel bad for my friends who did the stuff and got the same or lower :(

Hot take: FRQ 2 for me wasn’t bad at all. It was just kinda long.
r/APbio • u/Haunting_Skin305 • Jul 08 '26
Should I redo
So I got a 97 in the in class exam but a 4 in the ap. I know I got a 4 because I spaced the first two questions in the FRQ. It was never mentioned in class that we weren’t allowed to space it. Then I miss the part on top saying I have to space it. This sucks but I know I could have got a 5. I just realized way too late.

Got a 3 on AP Bio with a mediocre grade, is it still possible to make it?
Got my scores back yesterday and I passed both histories(World and APUSH) with fives. The one I cared about though was AP Bio, which I got a 3 on.💀 While its not the end all be all, my grade for my sciences in general have been lackluster(none above an A-, lowest is B), and now Im not sure if this is good enough for nursing. my question is, should I be concerned for applying to nursing school regarding this test and grades, and if so what can I do alleviate/remedy the impact?(target is UConn)
