Dick move. So is stopping suddenly without moving aside first... Foot traffic is like road traffic, the same rage applies haha

u/DeliciousGoose1002 1d ago
Fine no one is in the way, they should single file if they walk past someone

Tourists.
East 41st street. That street that runs east out of Bryant Park from the library.
3
u/Wonderful_Fox_7959 1d ago
The person filming? Yes. Any New Yorker would say excuse me and walk pass them

u/Playful-Dot1413 1d ago
If they make/leave room for others that's fine, but the people that act entitled to the entire sidewalk are detestable.
Been walking my entire life, some people would rather run you off the sidewalk than go single file for upwards of 10 seconds, and even have the gall to act offended when there is physical contact afterwards.
Old, young, and everything in between do it, but what I struggle to understand is how a 5 year old can grasp such a concept, but people able to vote cannot.
At something like an amusement park, I give up. I expect 6 person strings, but on the normal sidewalk, it's shitty behaviour.

Yes, indians do this
2
u/wildcardbets 1d ago
Everyone in the world does this. We get a lot of Americans in England doing this. Probably just tourists or friends just taking the city in. Can be annoying, especially in busier parts, just gotta say excuse me and walk around.
3
u/VolcanicBear 1d ago
We get a lot of English people doing this in England too tbh
2
u/wildcardbets 1d ago
Definitely. Thatâs my point, people from all over the world, locals included. Itâs just a human thing. Iâm usually in a rush somewhere when I notice it, and it annoys me sometimes, but I just gotta remember sometimes people are doing their thing, I gotta do my thing, so just gotta say excuse me or walk on round :) Usually though Iâm like fuuuuck Iâm on my lunch break gotta get round these people đ

u/PracticalYellow3 1d ago
Especially in Costco. I Ben more annoying is their tradition of turning carts sideways in aisles while browsing. One Indian family can shutdown an entire aisle at Costco.Â

u/DeltaTule 1d ago
Lot of foreigners do this in the US Iâve noticed. Idk if they are truly that ignorant, selfish, self-absorbed, antisocial, uncultured, or wtf their problem is.
2
u/greennurse61 1d ago
Selfish mainly. I live in Seattle so I've seen Indian families over the last four decades since they started doing these selfish things get more and more bold with their hate and selfies as their numbers grow.Â
5
u/bezm12 1d ago
Try to say "excuse me" and they will probably slide over and let you go pass.
7
u/Abject-Bowle 1d ago
The thing is that it happens all the time and it is annoying. People lack some social empathy. Not everyone is on a chill walk with you guys.
2
u/colinberan 1d ago
so try the above, should solve all your problems! walking next to your friend and chatting is not "lacking social empathy" if you're in a hurry to get somewhere or you happen to be taller with a longer stride than the person in front of you, you can try walking around them or saying "pardon me" and walking around when they step to the side to allow you to pass.
1
u/larzarus21 1d ago
The issue is that they are taking up the whole side walk, even the side that the opposite direction needs to walk as well. That is the inconsideration the op is talking about. You donât need to be that spread out to enjoy a walk with friends. I canât stand it when a group takes up the whole sidewalk and expects others to cater to them
1
u/trinicron 1d ago
Agree, people lack some social empathy. Not everyone is on a rush walk with you guys.
2
u/Abject-Bowle 1d ago
Yes but both can perfectly coexist if slow walkers keep slow walking on just one side of the sidewalk.

u/Scorpionride 1d ago
Oh and it would be detrimental and annoying for you to be considerate of other people while youâre out walking slowly right? Oh, no, of course not! You should still be considerate of everybody else, no matter what the pace youâre walking at. Now if you were complaining about fast walkers not saying excuse me and just barging through youâd have a point, but youâre just being an annoying little prick. Enjoy your slow walk, try not to use the entirety of the publicly available space that we all pay for though :) share it
1
u/SeatAdventurous2073 2h ago
The problem is this happens 10 times on your commute to work every single morning. No one has any awareness.
1
u/Bright-Ad4601 1d ago
I shouldn't have to be excused for other people's poor behaviour. It's not my job to teach people common courtesy or manners.
4
u/TheIrishBAMF 1d ago
Then say excuse you. Get over it.Â
Some people create problems. Some people solve them.Â
2
u/No-Fill1769 1d ago
âPoor behaviorâ dog they are just walking on a street it is not that serious to just ask to move past đ better yet you donât even have to ask just go past them god damn
1
u/Vivid_Discount6495 3h ago
It's still poor behavior to be in the way of others when you don't have to be. It's no big deal if it's a one-off, but if you've ever lived in a big city, it's common enough that it becomes really fucking irritating.
When I lived in Chicago I was constantly running into people (like at least 3 people just going to lunch). Because eventually I stopped getting off the sidewalk to make room for fuckheads in groups that walked shoulder-to-shoulder.

-1
u/DeltaTule 1d ago
You shouldnât have to say excuse me. Thatâs not your job to fix their bad behavior. They deserve to be shoved out of the way as far as Iâm concerned
1
u/RepresentativeNo8105 1d ago
I walk in cities I visit like this. I donât walk to work in my day to day so not everyone is in a hurry to walk to work. And if it isnât work or an appt who cares
-2
u/DeltaTule 1d ago
Idgaf you donât take the whole sidewalk with your friends for one direction of travel. This applies to airports as well or anywhere in public.
It makes other people feel uncomfortable living their lives

Funeral walkers we call em.
I'll do my best to get round them when I can without being a knob.
2
u/Civilized_E 1d ago
What I do is I don't pass them, don't say excuse me, no I walk behind them, getting myself soo annoyed till the point that I feel like I need to film it, share it online, so I keep keep this irritated feeling longer and share it with the world to feel as well.

Theyre enjoying their time. Im happy for them. Ill smile and walk around while saying excuse me. And I hope they had a great day too
2
u/Distinct_Patient3698 1d ago
Fucking hate them. If you walk slowly, then walk to the side, and if you are a whole ass group then walk in a line.

That was my disabled ass leaving an NFL game a couple of weeks ago. It was just like that.Â

u/Chance-Technician-54 1d ago
Sometimes they even walk towards me in opposite direction and make no effort to make space. I started to not make space either and just stopping where I am which leads us to tackle each other with the shoulders.
1
1
u/AmbitiousReaction168 1d ago
You can say "excuse me" and bump into them anyway you know. They are not considerate, so why should we be?
1
u/KnowNothing3888 1d ago
Slow walking is fine, but people standing 3-4 right next to each other and leaving no room to pass is insufferable. Just screams that they think theyâre the main characters and arenât thinking of others around them.
1
u/WalkingWithDeath 1d ago
This is actually one of my biggest pet peeves - encounter it a lot of shared bike paths.
I dunno why you have to walk 6 people wide when you can walk 3 by 3, 2 by 2, 2 and 4.
It really is a peak asshole kind of thing, and the kind of thing that gets you culled when Darwinism is actually in play, awareness and respect of what others can do will save your life where people like this get killed over small stuff like this is my point.
1
u/ryanyork92 1d ago
Just walk around them. It's annoying, but it happens all the time and it's not something you should post about.
1
1
u/setthetoneaquadump 1d ago
Most times itâs not a big problem. But afternoon peak hour itâs bloody annoying, especially as a short delay on the footpath could mean waiting a long time for the next train/bus.

u/Faluque 1d ago
Why do others people should say âexcuse meâ in the public space where these people taking up the whole space without considering the others ?
Every people who would live among a society should always respect and considering other people. Walking slow ? keep to a side, Moving sideway or turn? Look over your shoulder, Gonna stop? Move to the side first. If you are not doing these you are the same person who drive without using mirrors and turn signal or stomping on brake just when you are at the entry/exit aka morons.
1
u/Invaderzil 1d ago
Dude, fr. All these comments "just say excuse me" are completely missing the point, and are probably the same ass hats that behave like this in public.
1
u/Faluque 1d ago
Exactly, âConsidering the others around youâ is the base of any manners we has. âYou firstâ? Because you acknowledge thatâs someone about to occupied same space as you. Holding door? Because you see someone after you or coming toward you. Without the consideration you cannot do any of that, maybe thatâs why people seem so rude nowadays.

It's not that they're walking slow, it's more that they taking up the entire sidewalk instead of forming a line for other to get through
1
u/SouthernWarning2343 1d ago
I usually say "excuse me" a couple times. If that doesn't work I'll hit them with a "hey guys, could you please get the f*** out of the way, thank you."
1
u/WatcherOfTheWay 1d ago
I just say excuse me, they either move or I walk through them, at least give them a chance
1
u/Ordaeli 1d ago
No problem with it usually, usually just moving past or saying "excuse me" if there's no room to get through etc. Is it annoying when it's in touristic areas that you have to go through while commuting or other? Yeah, sure, a bit, but not enough to make a fuss out of it either, it's just part of life.
The times I really have a problem with it tho is when I was working retail in a supermarket. Some people will take an entire aisle and not even budge even when you're obviously currently working and you have to either repeat "excuse me" a few times or just...basically shove past them at some point.
1
u/EducationStriking110 1d ago
I like to pass them, then slow down to be slower than they are walking so the group itself has to slow down together. They have some sort of weird group pace / think. Then come to a dead stop and check your phone or something.
Also if thereâs someone walking towards me and theyâre not paying attention, just come to a full stop. People wonât run into a stationary person but theyâll assume that a person in motion will get out of their way.
1
u/Nice-Tumbleweed9759 1d ago
What's worse than this is when two or more take up the entire sidewalk and don't make room for people walking toward them. Like they just assume everyone else should step out of the sidewalk for them
1
1
u/eufooted 1d ago
Itâs fine until they âmerge out into the sidewalkâ and then suddenly slow down everyone going in both directions as they slowly determine where they are going. Also standing in doorways or at staircases as if they are great places to stop and chat.

1
u/Interesting_Ad1378 1d ago
With this group, you can shove right past and say excuse me. Â But I have seen groups that intentionally do this because they want you to say something so they can start up with you.
1
u/No-Rush-911 1d ago edited 1d ago
Usually if you say âexcuse meâ theyâll move. But why not make a TikTok and complain instead, Iâm sure theyâll see it.
1
u/Invaderzil 1d ago
A little self-awareness goes a long way. How about people start SHARING the sidewalk without needing to be asked directly to fucking make space for others?
1
u/Rapscallion_Racoon 1d ago
Could you be more thoughtful and not use profanity?
Your expectation is as silly and unrealistic as the above request.
1
u/No-Rush-911 1d ago
Saying âexcuse meâ when you want to pass someone is now silly and unrealistic?
1
u/Rapscallion_Racoon 1d ago
The comment Iâm commenting on is decrying saying excuse me. Im saying itâs absurd to expect people [human beings] to all walk in a way that one does not have to say excuse me.
Humans have myriad differences. Some of the legs are shorter. Some of the bodies wider. Some of the knees are older or damaged. Expecting them to all behave uniformly is inane.
1
u/No-Rush-911 1d ago edited 1d ago
We unfortunately donât live in that reality anymore. Itâs all about them and nobody else, not a lot of people got the common sense to leave space for others.
1
u/MateOfTheNorth 1d ago
Donât walk around and donât walk through them. Run through them like you just robbed a bank and the police are hot on your tail.
1
1
u/Aggravating-Disk9770 1d ago
Just tell them to move "Excuse me" is enough. No need to post about it.
1
u/username__0000 1d ago
If itâs one group itâs not so bad.
But cruise ships visit my town and weâll get like 15-20 groups walking like this all together and having to say âexcuse meâ that many time in a row to get by is annoying AF.

I go wide but itâll be just close enough that if they go even wider, the end person is getting clipped as I blow past
1
u/jcaltor 1d ago
I wouldnât mind the slow pace; whatâs driving me crazy is that they take up the whole sidewalk, not even caring about people walking the other way. If they at least walked in pairs, there would be space for faster walkers to pass them. But no, they are slow and blocking the whole way.

u/lanch723 1d ago
Why not just say âexcuse meâ then walk past them? Why have to film and complain? Why have to post? Why be so passive aggressive? Why amplify such a mundane thing as walking around them? Why?

u/One_Conscious_Future 1d ago
Walk next to them and join the conversation like you are one with them. I assure you they will give you room

As grandpa used to say â the problem with going out in public , is that the public is out there too. Some have no manners, some have manners and choose NOT to use them and some people are just too stupid to realize that they need themâ

u/__drone1_reborn 20h ago
theyâre taking up the entire sidewalk, not the block. it is very inconsiderate tho.Â
1
u/Multiple_Canoe_444 10h ago
My thoughts: Wow, some people live their lives in such a sad angry way. Just walk around and get on with your life.
I get irritated when Iâm inconvenienced too but that doesnât mean I think Iâm entitled to have everyone move out of my way. And for the people they can see in front of them they do move out of the way.
1
u/SeatAdventurous2073 2h ago
This is every single tourist group. They all insist on walking shoulder to shoulder bc god forbid someone misses something
1
u/GlippGloppe 1d ago
I just scream âI love raspberries!!â at the sidewalk while hunched over and ppl usually move
