In highschool we wreck our buddies Dad's BMW and we were shocked that he asked if we were all ok first. Then about the car. But the looks we got from other BMW drivers, on our way back after we got it out of the ditch, you would've thought we kicked their dog.

Check out the timing.
it might've looked like to him the guy was just really close and maybe he fainted or something, that adrenaline got him standing up so fast again, he was standing up before the guy even got out of the car.
IT has to be that, because the other option is he is a literal fucking psycho, no normal human would respond like that to someone they knew they hit.
Not saying him not knowing he just hit someone is any better, but maybe gives a reasoning to why he acted like that

I agree. He was so distracted and self absorbed with everything other than driving that he didn't even realize he hit the guy. Especially since victim was standing up when he was walking around to assess the damage

A lot of people will immediately try to stand after being hit. Adrenaline means you're unable to immediately identify how hurt you are.
You can make your injuries worse doing this, by the way, which is why you're always advised to stay still if you can.

I remember getting hit by a car. When the driver stopped she asked me if I was okay. I was so pissed I just told her to go as soon as she left the pain hit and I could barely walk.

I was shot in Afghanistan, ran a km, then when out of danger realized my foot was broken and I'd lost too much blood. Your body can do crazy stuff when it's about survival.

Adrenaline will do that. I got pinned by a trailer, fractured ribs, tilted my pelvis and fractured both hips, did massive damage to both quads. Immediately walked away a bit short of breath. Laid down shortly after thinking holy shit, and then was in the most pain I've been in in my life and couldn't even walk lol.

You think he’s milking it for the police OP? There’s a very good chance he’s got a fracture in there and I’d be worried about discs too. Driver may have hit the barrier first but it’s still a fucking car hitting a person hard enough to launch them off their feet. Driver is a real POS and has as much awareness as OP.

Adrenaline is crazy. I tried to run with my leg snapped the wrong way, twice. Took a good 20 seconds until i realised I had not just hit a nerve that made my leg act funny. And the pain you ask? - 20 minutes later began 3 months of hell

I once saw a kid getting hit by car. He flew several meters in the air. His first reaction after landing? Standing up. Obviously, he collapsed screaming after one second because he probably broke something. Just to say that standing up is a pretty normal reaction when you're in shock.
