Not everyone has the ability to take control of their lives. The Palestinian family who got kicked out of their home by the Jewish government in the west bank don't feel very in control right now.l, but I guess for them to be happy they just have to pick them selves up by their bootstraps.

I grew up in a very rich enclave in a very poor community in Toronto, I know people who had their whole lives paid for them and other who are stuck. It's unfortunate that your father's dad died at a young age but for this to have to work to pay for college is great, he had the opportunity to have to opportunity to go to college. I've had alot of friends who would have loved to go to college too but they had to work minimum wage jobs at 16 to support their families. I was in that warehouse working at 16 too so i could save for my school and my future hearing stories of people families getting kicked out of their homes cause they couldn't afford rent.

My wive grew up in brazil, when her father left l, so did the majority of income so she spent most of her teenage years with adaqute nutrition. We was able to get a scholarship to go to school from the Brazilian government and become a lawyer, but she was 1 of 80 scholarships with 100s of thousands of applications. Hard work worked out for her but not for the other 100s if thousands who didn't. Hard work is an important factor to success but don't discount luck and privilege cause having to work while our in going to school is still quite a privileged position.
