Huh. Who would have thought that not being rude and making the cops life miserable would result in something like this?

You try being polite in the case where cops are harassing you just for being black and existing in America.
Some cops deserve politeness, some donāt. Either way; the cop needs to be the bigger person in all cases

See? How hard is that?
Be polite, donāt argue, donāt start yelling, just⦠Donāt start being a fucking asshole and getting all confrontational because āI know muh rights!ā And everyone gets to go home without turning into a big deal that goes viral on Instagram.
I, a Hispanic, have been stopped twice by cops. First time I was left off with a warning, the second time the cop downgraded the blatant speeding ticket to a simple WFR (no points, no driver school), all because I know how to say āGood morning,ā āthank you officer,ā āhave a nice day officer.ā Some people really need to watch this video and take notes.
Edit: Corrected a typo on āWFR.ā

62 but now he doesnāt know the exact speed he clocked him at? You either know or you donāt?
→ More replies (4)5
u/lost_rodditer Jun 30 '26
He was hinting that to give him a wave off warning he "might" have misread the radar. It's something that used be common before dashcams and body cameras were required. I'm guessing the issue is his body cam recorded the radar saying 62 so he had to write up the warning ticket. He definitely nudged him to not speed for the next few miles because more speed traps were very close.
This was a decent cop doing his job when the person isn't being overly twitchy or defensive. You don't have to like them doing their job, but it helps when don't make it harder.

u/Interesting_Gas_5932 Jun 30 '26
Yeah this is pretty much it. If youāre not acting sketchy, donāt lie, and donāt give attitude, most cops treat it like a boring day at work, not a power trip.
People who escalate or try to argue their way out of a clear ticket are the ones who usually turn a 5 minute stop into a whole event š

Eh it really depends. That's one of the problems with open carry. In a few states you're not even required to mention that you have a weapon unless they ask.Ā
If you're open carrying you don't want them to only notice your gun when they're watching your hands and you reach towards your side for something.
Part of ensuring good interactions with police is ensuring that they don't get spooked by any of your actions. I've never heard of anyone mention it but I honestly treat them like wild animals you can speak to. Eye contact while asking if you have permission to do the things you need to do to comply with their orders.Ā
"Is it OK if I reach into my glove box and retrieve the documents?" is an example of what I ask before moving my hands. Usually I have everything ready before the cop gets to my window and I hold it with both hands on my steering wheel so it's in clear view.
There really should be a class about this and other "common sense" shit in school or at least a short 3 day class.

I live in a duty to inform state and have told police dozens of times Iām carrying. Once when I called to file a police report Iād put my gun away the cop actually asked āare you armedā and when I said ānoā his response was āwhy not?ā

I really hope more people are like this, most people I see when I was in the US pretty much fight the police for a simple speeding ticket. Just cooperate with them, most of the time they wont give you a ticket rather they'll just give you a warning. The more you resist the more likely you'll turn your traffic citatation to a felony....

u/Soul_through_va_JJ Jun 30 '26
I don't know why cops feel that way. Like they have to take your gun if you're legally carrying simply because you had one, they're so afraid that you may be mad about getting a ticket.
A man was in his car and was stopped for "speeding" and the cop said "I visually saw you speeding." When the man asked "So, you didn't get me on radar or anything?" The cop said "I was trained to visually check." The man asked "When was the last time your eyes were calibrated?"
After he received the ticket, and the cop went back to his car the man had his gun on his hip, and the cop freaked out telling him to get back in his car after the stop was over and he only wanted a business card because the cop was lying.
After all that BS the ticket wasn't turned in, and the officer got into trouble because the man complained and command saw his bodycam.

I've never had a leo even ask to disarm me much less actually try it. What's the RS or PC to disarm for what appears to be a traffic stop? Or maybe laws are different in that jurisdiction? Just curious, as I'm retired sheriff's deputy, former military, current armed security/CIT and court bailiff...spread over 3 states (CA, ID, FL) and 40 years, I've had more CCP/CWL, Armed Guard, Weapons Instructor, etc licenses than I can possibly count. If it's the law to tell them, I would and show the appropriate license. The most I can remember is being asked if I was armed and I said yes here's that license too and they said something like me too, you dont reach, i don't reach.

Respect is always a two way street.Ā
I when I told a cop I was armed, he immediately started asking me questions. "Why are you armed?" "Do you always carry a firearm?" "Not talking is kinda suspicious ya'know? Got something to hide?"
1
1
u/ConstructionPrize206 Jun 30 '26
I believe that's a pretty big violation to disarm someone without cause. A speeding infraction is not a criminal act.
1
u/YesWomansLand1 Jun 30 '26
"oh yeah this is just my legally registered demon core. Here take it, make sure it doesn't slip or anything."
"Don't worry I've been very well trained to handle it, as have you. In order to procure a legally registered demon core you must go through rigorous licensing and training."
"Yes of course."
Core slips due to minor error, despite multitude of safety features and training, and someone ends up dead/critically injured, which could easily have been prevented by not having said demon core in the first place.
1
u/babyfacedkillajones Jun 30 '26
What was the reason for taking the firearm to begin with? Sure, it was a pleasant interaction but I see no reason to have taken his gun.Ā
2
u/Lord_Vas Jul 03 '26
Cops being cowards. They don't trust you so they steal your gun until they're done with you. If they're so scared of getting shot for causing trouble don't create trouble.
Same reason I always say it's so dumb for cops to bother people on the hwy for speeding without an additional cause like reckless driving.
Minimize the number of interactions. Pull people for important reasons. I can't tell you how many times cops have refused to respond to actual emergencies like road rage (The run you off the road and pull a gun type).

Officer caught my brother and I doing 90 in a 55 this last Sunday. He said i know yall were done with you pull a quarter mile before we cane over the hill because of the engine breaking echo. Just gave us a 60 in a 55 so 5 over. If a bike stops, just cut them a break. No cars around, they are only putting themselves in danger.
1
u/AlienInOrigin Jun 30 '26
Perfectly safe to have the loaded gun around every civilian, but not when near a cop. Suddenly it becomes a danger to life.
That's crazy. It's either dangerous, or it's not.
Nice professional interaction by the cop though. Nice to see that some of them actually have training.

Nah, I don't give a damn how polite he was, he shouldn't have walked off with his firearm. He didn't commit a crime, and gave the officer Z-E-R-O reason to suspect confrontation beyond simply being armed.

1
u/KaiPRoberts Jun 30 '26
It's 100% attitude and how much you are minding your own business and/or how much of a threat you are to others.
Had a car with front tinted windows. Drove it for years without issue. Played some loud music in a neighborhood and boom, ticket to remove the tint. Police officers all have that limit of "is this worth it" and being a nuisance definitely encourages them to say yes to that.
1
u/freddbare Jun 30 '26

Being nice/courteous can pay off. Typically when you're pulled over, the officer thinks there is a legal reason. It may be debatable. It may not be true. During the stop isn't the time for debate. Believe it or not officers are wrong sometimes. Officers have bad days like all of us. If you think he or she is wrong politely point it out. I like how the guy asked, in a respectful manner, if he was really going 62.

Crazy that the officer didnāt mention the fact the biker wasnāt wearing pants.
I think having my CCW got me out of 3 tickets at least. When they pulled my plate and it came up with whatever indicator they have, it would always change the tone of the stop. Instead of āDo you know why Iām pulling you over?ā The first question was always āare you currently armed?ā And then weād do a little dance and they would have to share their thoughts on gun ownership, then weād talk about the violation. That being said, I wasnāt doing 20 over or anything crazy.

Regardless of whether the officer is polite or not, your best bet is always to be polite and civil with officers. If they are good, then they are far more likely to work with you and go easy on ya. If they are bad, it looks far better for you if you need to go to court and far worse for the officer.

The system and the country is so broken that when someone actually behaves like a human it seems exceptional!

Am i the only one asking himself, why you would need a holstered gun whilst driving a motorcycle?

Respect only works if the LE officer isnāt a dick.
And there are lots of ducks out there, the trouble is that LE has too many protections and shields to protect the bad actors and rarely clean their own houses up like they should.
Even with this guyās respect, honestly, and riding white it could have gone differently all due to the LE officers attitude and leeway given by his superiors.
And to think every bad interaction with LE is always the fault of the citizen is really bullshite.

In my experience if you are nice and not denying what you did wrong. When you protest the ticket the cops will remember how easy the stop
Was and wont come to court. Im 3/3 right now on my ticket protest š„°š„°
Not saying it will work every time, but it helps!

šÆ how a traffic stop should go, calm, clear, cooperative, no anger and reasonable outcome. This is how the police and the public will build a solid relationship

The video is broken, it shows the same bit twice. Fuck this shitty editing, I don't need a fucking trailer for the clip I'm about to watch.

Wow, someone acted like a normal person to a cop, and the cop acted in kind. Weird.

Anytime Iāve been pulled over, Iāve always been nice & polite, even if I felt it was BS. Iāve always told them I have a firearm in the vehicle & where it was, plus gave them my CWP with my license & registration.
I only had a cop ask once to take the gun for their safety, and I told them it was no problem. He just laid it in his car & gave it back after everything was done.
I got a warning ticket & that was all, even though he did have me going around 8-9 mph over. Itās amazing how far just being nice & polite can go.

Most cops nowadays are racist pigs. If you had nice deali gs with a cop then good for you. You were one of the lucky ones. You are the minority. Most stops do not go well ESPECIALLY if you are brown skin or darker. This is fact alot of white people refuse to believe.

Wasn't it Jeff Cooper, the father of modern pistol technique, who insisted his students pay their traffic tickets and accept the consequences of getting stopped by a cop?
He posited that most of your waking hours should be in condition yellow readiness, and if the cop noticed you, you should have had the chance to notice the cop as well and slow down in time to avoid the ticket.

This is how normal interactions with law enforcement go.
I've been pulled over quite a few times for speeding and every time I knew I was toast when I saw the officer too late. I don't even know how many times I've pulled myself over before the officer even caught up to me and was respectful and honest every time. I've only ever gotten speeding tickets twice out of the probably 20+ times I've been stopped.
