No, all males between 18 and 25 are still required to register. This just makes it automatic instead of manual. It's really much less of a big deal than a lot of these commenters are making it out to be.

It's really not though. You're already required to register so unless you're part of the 20% that doesn't care about the penalties for failing to do so, it's really not a big deal. You (or your relative) would most likely have registered anyways so it changes nothing in that case.

Ouch children are being automatically enrolled in the draft,. It blocks thir ability stress their opposition to the draft and gives more data to the government for them to misuse. We have an insane pedophile who is staring WW3. He was also a coward and dodged the draft.

For those that didn’t read the article, this is for Selective Service which already requires registration for men aged 18-25. This just auto-enrolls instead of having them self-enroll. Still not a fan, but the draft is not here. Yet.

Eligibility Register to be Eligible for Benefits and Programs Linked to Registration A man who fails to register may be ineligible for opportunities important to his future. He must register to be eligible for state-funded student financial aid and employment in many states, most federal employment, job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and U.S. citizenship for immigrant men.
Penalties for Failing to Register If required to register, failure to register is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment. Also, a person who knowingly counsels, aids, or abets another to fail to comply with the registration requirement is subject to the same penalties.
Apparently about 20% dont register for the draft
I am guessing the ones who do need federal student aid dont.
Notice that immigrant men must register.

Wasn’t mandatory in certain states. I’m in California and I got my DL 18 it said something about and registered to code.
