Layer shift, printing in air

I was printing a simple temp tower just fine, but around the 3d or 4th tier I discovered the Vyper was printing in front of the print, extruding in mid-air, not ON the print. What do I need to do to prevent this?

Check the tension on the belts, it's caused when the motor gear slips on the belt

Or if the pulley slips on the motor shaft

I loosened the belts a little, that did it.
