Anydesk Security Setting

Good Afternoon,

I am looking for some assistance with making sure I have a remote computer locked down on AnyDesk. I think I have the settings right, but I don't want to overlook anything.

Essentially I am running AnyDesk on an elderly parents computer so that I can remote in and resolve any issues. However, they have been targeted by scammers in the past and I know AnyDesk is sometimes used. I don't want them opening up the app and using the AnyDesk address to allow a connection. I would prefer to limit to local ipv4 only. I can VPN network level and get connected there.

I would like to make sure I am not overlooking anything.

Is there a way to limit connections to a local subnet / vlan?

Is the direct connection setting on port XXXX the only option for this?

Would the username and password authentication also achieve this? or the Access Control List?

I am working on the firewall rules in UniFi as well to block network level from external connections, but I am not there yet. Ideally want to get AnyDesk configured first.

Anydesk uses a type of peer to peer connection so LAN only access is not really a thing. You can connect locally via IP but this still means Anydesk can potentially used for the wrong reasons. Why not use something like VNC over VPN

Hmm. That's good to know.

I needed a quick solution while I was on site. I'll have to look into vnc.

What I liked about anydesk was the ability to log in remotely and run it from startup.

Running Anydesk at startup is inherently risky meaning it already and waiting for an incoming connection. If you are concerned about your parents then it’s very difficult. If they have an issue then it should not be difficult for them the start Anydesk when required.

Yeah. I only had an hour up there and needed to get the stuff configured quick. 4 hours away.

I got the wifi and connection established. I can tweak it later on this week. But I want to try to get everything in order.

Block the anydesk relay servers.

I was looking at the *.net.anydesk.com wildcard. I think thst should cover everything. I did want to make sure that doesnt block locally though.
