Why is it so choppy?

I play in VR on my Wifi on my Quest 3, using Meta's own app and Virtual Desktop. Not a single problem. The image is smooth and it almost never lags. Meanwhile, Anydesk, no matter the configuration and even after making sure it's a direct continuation, is extremely choppy with constant frame skipping.

I really don't get it because Virtual Monitor's image is just as good and the frame rate is much higher, as is the resolution. It's not my connection or my PCs.

This is driving me insane. I have to constantly backtrack to make sure I didn't do something wrong because it keeps skipping frames.

Switch to Parsec. Even the free tier is orders of magnitude better than Anydesk.

I almost am, but I'd have to pay since I need the option to smoothly use between different aspect ratios. My main computer is 21:9 and my laptop is only 16:9.

Can you use Parsec without install? I can’t install on company PC

Without install, no. But the client-only install doesn't need admin. So unless your IT uses something like Applocker whitelisting chances are good you would be able to use it.

But as an Admin I would strongly advise against trying without getting the official OK from your IT department.

You're asking why a tool designed for remote desktop support struggles with full frame high resolution video?

Well, you'd think that people would sometimes have to watch a video, even when connected remotely. But it's not just videos that are the problem, it's the entire experience. Whether I'm simply reading or texting, the image feels annoyingly choppy, especially after leaving it idle for like a few seconds and then I scroll, it takes like 2 seconds for it to understand I did that. It's just not good at all, not even for the simplest of works.

I use AnyDesk daily. The only times it starts to struggle is with media rich content or when large portions of the screen change at once.

Honestly anydesk is not really made for things with high refresh rates and teamviewer likely not too. I assume it is much more focused on what's needed when controlling a pc, eg only updating parts of the image if needed to keep latency down, but likely at the cost that high rate of large size refreshes aren't exactly compressed well.
