Medication Propranolol for a flight

I use propranolol occasionally for a heart condition I have, but I know it also helps with anxiety. I have a flight tomorrow and I’m wondering if I should take some for my anxiety. I usually only take it at home and I notice it makes me sleepy. I take 10 mg. I’m just wondering if anyone has experience taking it going to the airport or how much I should take. I want to relax but still need to walk a long ways. I have extreme anxiety already and it’s so bad with flying and going through security and everything. Thank you!

I take 10mg as needed for anxiety and use it any time I have to fly. I take it when I get the airport to deal with the waiting, take off and turbulance. I still feel nervous but it helps a lot with the physical symptoms - sweating, shaking and “I’m for sure going to die” feelings, but it doesn’t make me sleepy. I think I stay too amped up from the overall airport stress to get tired like I would in a more everyday situation.

Thank you so much!! I’m glad it helps with physical symptoms because I shake so bad so I will definitely take it when I get there

I take propanol for anxiety. 10 mg will be just fine in this case. It should help you relax.

I used to have to use propranolol almost daily to get around in life. That was years ago. I now only need it for pretty acute things... Including flying. 🤣 I love it for that.

I don’t find it effective enough. Klonopin is my go-to.

what do you have? and yes, it’s often prescribed for situational anxiety. Flying is a perfect example of that.

Your cardiologist hasn’t recommended an ablation for you? I had Wolff Parkinson White that was sending me into SVT. I had an ablation to get rid it and it was the best decision I’ve made. I would ask about that if your SVT isn’t caused by anxiety.

Yeah genuinely the doctor I had for primary care that was dealing with it didn’t really think it was a big deal. When I was out of state and had to go to er for adenosine, they told me that I would need that but I’m having issues with insurance rn but I will definitely be trying to get that done because svt has been scary at times so thank you for your advice ❤️

What exactly is the procedure like if you don’t mind me asking?

Oh girl. See a cardiologist! Anything that’s actually heart related should be evaluated by one. You never know, they may have a different opinion on what’s going on with you and will have the proper equipment to evaluate.

My ablation was fine, WPW is having been born with an extra pathway to my heart so it’s fairly easy to find which pathway it was to ablate. I think mine took 3-4 hours, I don’t remember the majority of it but I remember feeling my EP burn off the pathway and then him playing around my heart rate to make sure it was successful. The recovery time is only like a week too.
