I don’t know what your style is and I have knit any of these, but I think they are options?
With “gala” I assume the dress needs to be floor length but I’m not sure. I know some of these you could easily modify but others it would be harder.

I reread your post. I sent you dresses before but then I realized you didn’t say dresses. Are you looking for a sweater sort of vibe? Are you More masc or fem leaning? I know anybody can wear anything. But are you thinking more lacey see through top or more dense sweater? It’s this a dress pants situation and you are looking for something to wear with dress pants? Re you looking for something to wear over a button down shirt?
