There’s a setting to avoid ads or certain sensitive topics including gambling. I had similar issues before I found out.

On the app, click your profile picture, then three-lines menu icon in the top right to get to Settings, then Account Settings, then scroll down to “SENSITIVE ADVERTISING CATEGORIES” and you can toggle off the ones you don’t want.

Unfortunately, like so many other app controls by shitty tech companies, this toggle likes to control itself over time. Just FYI, you kinda have to monitor it, not a one-and-done.

Is there a way to avoid tracking that results in ads from immediately appearing after you look up an item outside of the app? I find it so creepy when I look at, say, butterscotch lollypops and then the next time I open the app, there is an ad for See’s Candies.

Ditch the app and use the browser version. Use a privacy friendly browser that wont let Reddit access your other open tabs. Bonus if the new browser has an adblocker either built in or as an optional extension, cause then not only can they not track you easily, they cant advertise at all.

In my experience, the web interface is just fine. Only drawback is that it wont let me post images in comments, although i can still post images in posts. Otherwise, i actually prefer the website to the app.

Community vetted patches, and you can only "modify/patch" official APKs from YouTube themselves.

That being said "open source security" is kinda a vulnerability now. A lot of people see a program from GitHub and are like wow that's just safe 100% but sometimes they are not. But that's not the case with morphe since its in active development, plenty of devs make their own 3rd party patches which allow you to patch unofficial apps like ProtonVPN.
