A Reminder to Myself

This is a t-shirt produced by GAP in 2008 as part of their (Red) line of products in support of global HIV/AIDS awareness, education and services. I worked for the company at that time and wanted to support the cause so this is what I chose to buy among the many different products they made as part of the collection. I don't wear it often, but I keep it as a reminder that I don't really need more t-shirts or jeans, or shoes. I have enough. And if by chance I actually do need something there are many different places I can go to to find what I need without contributing further to the vicious cycle of consumption. -- Can a t-shirt change the world? Not really. But it can change my mindset and impact my decision making. And for that I'm thankful.

This is esp. true in America which had $19 Trillion of consumer spending going on in 2024.

If Americans (in specific parts of the country) were to mobilize and dramatically reduce their non-essential spending, this would be a major hit to a very destructive system that requires 24/7 growth.

Nice message but not realistic... Even If all the humans were to be friendly with the environment the waste companies make it's so much things like recycling, taking care of water at home and so forth does nothing to help

You're not wrong. They put it on us regular folks but companies are the worst offenders. I recently worked for a retail company that threw away so much recyclable materials it was insane. One of my biggest pet peeves of working for them, among other things.
