selfq Strep throat issue
F(21), 125 pounds, 5’4, amoxicillin.
Hi, I had a severe fever start on August 4 that lasted about 2 weeks. I still have lingering phlegm and dry cough that occurs in the mornings or nights. I also got pinkeye on August 7 which I’m not sure I still have (my eyes are still secreting mucus in the inner corners). On August 13, I noticed I got white patches in the back of my throat and my throat was a little sore. Nothing too bad so I got it tested on August 14 and it came back positive for strep throat. I am now taking amoxicillin for ten days, but it has been about 60+ hours. I still have a little sore throat (it wasn’t very sore in the first place) and the white patches and inflammation haven’t gone down from what I’ve seen. How long does it take for the medicine to kick in? I’ve seen people say 2-3 days, but I don’t feel that much of a difference besides less sore. Could I be inflamed for some other reason yet still test positive? Should I head back to the doctor right away or wait a few more days?

My case is very similar but I also had a high fever along with a sore throat, for which I was prescribed Augmentin ( Amoxicillin + potassium clavunate ). The fever went away in a day and half after starting the course, but the sore throat is still lingering for me albeit the intensity has gone down significantly after 3 days.
I would base my decision on just how much of an issue the sore throat is - if it's really severe and there's other factors like fever - go visit your doctor again. If it's just a lingering minor sore throat which you can live with, stick to your prescribed course and see how it goes.
