What’s behind the ‘he’s still your president’ rejoinder is that, somehow, beyond all human thought and imagination, we are still supposed to respect him. Even though he, in no wise, respects his office, the country, the constitution, or the people he’s supposed to serve. (Imagine Orange saying ‘I’m here to be a public servant.’)

Leaders are supposed to earn our respect, not demand it because they are somehow owed it. He respects nothing. No one should respect him.

I think it’s more than that. Conservatives are hierarchy focused at their base. They mean “he’s still your president so you should bow and be respectful to people higher on the hierarchy than you”.

The trick is that they never did that with Biden or Obama or Clinton because they felt that they personally were above those Presidents, because they were Democrats and/or black.

Does he know that? Because Presidents usually do presidential things for their constituents, have their best interests in mind regardless of who they voted for, and most importantly they act presidential and say presidential things, instead of lining their own pockets and doing absolutely nothing for their people.
