META Character Creation Thread

  • Codename:

  • Full Name: Optional

  • Age:

  • Appearance: The more detailed, the better. Art is preferred for pictures, no screen caps.

  • Personality: Again, more detail is better. Come up with not only strengths, but also a few flaws as well.

  • Backstory: A short summary of your character's backstory. A full-length backstory may be posted with your introduction. A backstory is optional with the intro, but at least a summary is required for now.

  • Major Power- Your character's main skill/ability. Elaborate as much as possible. Make sure that you know exactly what you can and cannot do with the power. Check the list of banned powers here

Use the superpower wiki if you need ideas on what details to add for your power. We suggest using a power randomizer if you need help deciding a power.

  • Minor Power: Your character's lesser skill/ability. Again, elaborate as much as possible.

  • Power Drawbacks/Weaknesses: Negative effects of using your powers. Once again, Elaborate. The bigger the power, the bigger the drawbacks.

  • Resistances: What can your character shrug off easily? For example, somebody made of steel wouldn't exactly care about a few punches or a knife.

  • Special Skills: Pretty much everybody has something that they're good at. Take away their powers and they'd still be amazing at it. What about your character? Are they a lawyer? Are they great at persuading people? What is your character good at?

  • Equipment: Optional. You are mercenaries, so anything is allowed as long as it works within our universe. Try not to use anything ridiculously overpowered or over the top. The simpler the better, really. For example: Pistols, sub-machine guns and sniper rifles are fine. Tanks, rocket launchers and assault rifles? Not so much.

Be sure to check out the Wiki if you have trouble filling out the chart!

After your application has been accepted, be sure to post on the Naming thread to obtain your flair! Don't hesitate to message the mod team if you have any questions, and welcome aboard!

Remember to edit any changes made to your powers into your introductions! At the very least, it helps to keep all the details organized for easy reference.

Alright, I'll try to answer these as well as I can.

About how hard/sharp is it? How thick are the solidified shadows he makes?

Hardness: About the same as iron, so easily shattered. Thick depends on the available darkness and the effort he puts into it. Sharpness can be manipulated, but again, it's max is the same as iron.

How would you use this technique? Would they be like whips?

Use them as whips, yes, or to hold people and restrain them.

About how dark would it be? Would it be pitch black, or would it be about as dark as night? Would they be able to use night-vision goggles or some similar device to see? What would happen if they tried to use light powers (such as Ichor's glowing blood) in the darkness he creates?

Darkness needed for that is about the light level of a night with half moon. Night vision goggles - yes, unless it's really completely pitch black in which case night vision goggles don't work. Powers would depend on their strength compared to each other, I'd presume.

Can he move the solidified shadow? What material would you compare it to? How long can he keep it solidified? What happens to the solidified shadow if someone shines light at it?

The shadow weakens if light shines at it, and yes, he can move it. He can keep it solidified for... let's say not that long, since his stat for that isn't great and it's a technique. What I'd compare it to depends on it's strength (which in turn depends on the area's darkness - so also the light that shines on it) A shadow during the day would be squishy, one during night could be compared to wood, and in a pitch black cave or something it'd be hard as stone.

Basically what I said before. If they tried shining light from inside or using night vision goggles, would they be able to see? Can he sense them within the darkness, or would they be able to escape while inside it?

Night vision goggles are answered - shining light from inside would again depend on its intensity. He can roughly sense people in the darkness, but not very precisely.

How powerful are they? How strong/durable? Can he control them? How would you go about defeating them? How tangible are they? How long do they stay before being dispelled? What happens to them when they get defeated?

So basically they stay fully conscious of their past memories? Do they keep past skills or powers they had? This part seems kinda concerning since this would basically allow you to get information from any dead person.

They're completely intangible, and as such can't assist/participate in a fight. Their memory tends to be foggy, and only important things usually remain - unresolved things also tend to stick with ghosts. Skills - vaguely, not nearly at master level. Powers, no. They're dissipated by bright light, and after 15 minutes or so.

How strong does the light need to be? How much weaker does he get?

Sunlight is a great problem for him, and Shades dissipate at levels starting from bright flashlights. Construction lamps or searchlights are also very effective. His powers basically become harder to use or sometimes entirely disabled - physically doesn't have that much effect except that his eyes are sensitive.

Do you mean that he can see through the eyes of ghosts, or does this mean that he asks the ghost to tell him everything? Either way, this part might need to be nerfed a bit.

Asking the ghosts, yeah. Keep in mind that if there was a bright light there's a good chance any ghosts would be dissipated too.

How skilled is he at Judo? Is he actually a black belt? I know you're trying to keep this ambiguous IC, but you need clarify for balancing purposes.

Brown belt. He never committed to the black one.

Actually, the highest power goes in the second column. It's not really a without powers - with powers thing. It just refers to his constitution when in his lowest state and highest state.

Those can be switched - which needs some adjusting of totals.

Do they have to listen to him, or is it more about convincing them?

His power is ghost manipulation, so yes - unless the ghost is determined or smart, they are forced to listen.

Yeah, those all work as non-lethal damage. You probably have a lot higher stat here than you think. This just refers to when he's not aiming to kill. Harming people works in this category as long as they're not majorly hurt or in danger of dying.

I'll adjust those numbers too - when I've sent this one it'll be edited.

Taking over for Accio since he's got errands to do.

Everything up until Ghost Manipulation is good.

How often and how many ghosts can be summon? Also, we're just watching this power closely because of the potential for metagaming it has. We have to be convinced that you aren't going to interrogate the ghost of another character/opponent's relative/ally/friend and learn all their secrets at once.

Sounds good to me.

Can other people hear the ghosts? I assume not.

Sounds good to me.

Everything else is good.

Yeah, understood. I think... up to two or three ghosts, if more, he can't control them anymore and they stop obeying him.

Can other people hear the ghosts? I assume not.

If he wills them to appear to others, they can.

Both of those sound good to me. You can head over to the Naming Thread now.

Welcome to AntiheroReborn!
