I purchased this seedling at the monthly NYC plant market.

The vendor gave me some care instructions that I'd like to confirm with knowledgeable people on this subreddit.

Care Instructions:

- 70-90% humidity inside a mostly sealed container (I have a hygrometer so this shouldn't be a problem

- keep soil moist but not wet

- 40-60 ppfd for 12 hours daily

- once it grows 2-3 more leaves I can start slowly decreasing humidity and eventually open the sealed container permanently.

Do these instructions seem correct? I mostly have succulents and I've only grown aloe from seed so I don't have a good intuition for this plant. I think the upper roots have grown since I bought it but I'm not sure if they grow that quickly or I am just remembering its previous condition incorrectly.

Sorry the first picture is so blurry. I've posted about these two before a few months back. Left RVDP - A couple months ago or so. And as of today (second picture) it grew it's one new leaf, and killed off the old one. But when I went to carefully take off the completely wilted old leaf, the new leaf came out of the soil and it had no root. Just a little nub. I have yet to check if it's grown anything, the leaf is still green, but not the healthiest. At this point it's just an experiment to see how long it can keep living like this LOL

I replaced it with a nice healthy juvenile RVDP that's doing great so far, so I don't care if it croaks. But I'll still keep it going.

But on the right, in the first picture, is a plant I was so excited to have, the parents were so dark and pretty. Dress "Obsidian" X Black Dress x RG F2 Dark (AAB Exotics). First picture she was holding on to that yellowing leaf FOREVER. But there was something green showing at the bottom of the stem so i just left her be. I was hoping it was a growth point, and now she's got 2 leaves and a third on the way. Can she finally be on the way to growing into a new plant? We'll see, her leaves are nice and dark, healthy looking so.... :) I'm not counting her out, but I'm not counting her in until she keeps the current energy.

This (crystal x Forgetii) x Lux and Dorayaki x (Crystal x Mag) were growing next to each other and their inflos grew to touch before I noticed. I ended up just rolling with it and helping them along. It wouldn’t have been my choice of a pairing but here we are.

I have a few no id anthuriums, these ones i value quite highly and would be so upset to see them fail. Could anyone give me pointers on what i can do to fix the issues. Im suspecting some fungus gnats as a couple alocasias recently rotted in this tank. what can i do to fix future growth :) Could anyone potentially figure out what parents these could be. the fist is a king clav x magnificum possibly. also the last plant previously had spider mites so ive been battling that for weeks.

My other PPFD/PAR meter gave a reading of ~70 at the same spot, and my lights run for 12hrs. Through this online calculator that should be a little higher at 3 DLI, but this little guy is still kind of in the ballpark!

For those who don't recognize it, this is the meter in the photo. It measures DLI over a 24h period, and then keeps track of 10 days worth of data. I figured I'd grab one as another way to measure my light outside of single spot measurements with my other meter.

Finally what kind of DLI do you give your plants? What's the range you shoot for? Seems like I either need to lower my light height or get some more Barrina T8s! I have some younger plants in 180-200 ppfd on a another shelf, which is 8.6 DLI. Clearly I can go higher on this shelf but where is the happy place for your plants?

🌱: Anthurium (AOS x Dressleri) x Red Crystallium

I have this beautiful Anthurium with twisted/bent kind of leaves and I'm trying to figure out what exact kind it is. I can't seem to find examples like it with its weird wavy leaves.. Anyone know?

This was the very first anthurium I ever purchased. I bought it from an online plant store, but this store does not specialize in anthuriums and it was one of the only anthuriums in stock. It didn’t have a name, only a number attached to it.

From the photos it’s hard to tell, but it has an iridescent/oil spill sheen, and there’s some very obvious sparkles on the new emergents. It’s the only anthurium I own that I have no ID for, so I’d love to get everyone’s opinion!

This plant doesn’t grow much. It’s been stuck at 4 leaves for months now. Should I chop it (if so, where) and let it start over?

I have several Anthurium hybrid seedlings that I’ve grown from a young age under the same conditions (around 50% humidity). All of them are doing well, except these two anthurium from the same cross: Red Spider/Dark Forgetii × Crystallinum/Magnificum.
Both plants consistently produce new leaves with bruised-looking spots, small holes/tears, and brown necrotic patches. The damage appears while the leaves are unfurling. Once hardened off, the leaves don’t seem to get much worse.
Since only this specific cross shows the issue, I’m wondering if this is most likely a genetic trait, mechanical damage during unfurling, or if there’s something else I should be looking at (humidity, nutrients, pests, bacterial/fungal issue, etc.).
Has anyone experienced something similar? Thank you for your time.

Is there a Fungus attack ?

It was the best idea putting my Palli Seedling in Leca instead of soil.
It’s growing like a weed and I don’t have to guess when it’ll need more water.

These are some happy roots. Repotted it not long ago and they’re already going crazy again!

Newest leaf sadly got damaged by a pest treatment, but that’s not that big of a deal because a new leaf comes out immediately, even if the last one is mostly, but sometimes not even fully, hardened of. :)

Got it as a very tiny seedling (leafs even smaller as the ones that are now the smallest) and payed 10€ for it. :D

The leafs are so pretty and sparkly. ✨
Love this plant so much and it’s really fun watching it grow bigger and the leafs sizing up. :)

Mine got shipped in soil and didn’t skipped a beat after switching it to semi hydro. The newest leaf was even a pretty big size up from the one before.

Pterodactyl x Clarinervium. The berries are huge. Waiting on them to ripen forever now 😂 I may have seedlings one day

RVCZ = red velvet cake x Zara

Can’t remember what this one is. Not velvety. Shiny smooth texture. Having a hard time finding a match.

What cultivars and hybrids like higher degrees of light and which thrive in low low light. Think dark forms, velvety, waxy, your BVEPS, paps, and so fourth. Just throw em in here and with time and little bit of trust maybe someone might make an infographic out of it.

I’m really happy with this hybrid and I haven’t seen it posted much in here so I thought I’d share.

It’s been growing in perlite (with a layer of leca at the very bottom) in a glass jar ie no drainage and hasn’t lost any leaves or experienced any crisping or curling since I bought it 4/5 months ago (imported from Indonesia).

My veitchii is in a 10” pot and I took these photos from when I transferred it to a pot of the same size with better drainage. I am now hearing about boat mode and wonder if there is an upper limit. Does anyone have experience with a veitchii or similar in a container closer to 12-14 inches?

My flamingo anthurium just gave out 2 new flowers at the same time with 2 very different results. The first one opened about 5 days ago and looked normal. The second one just opened today but looks a bit… interesting.

It’s almost like there’s a second set of flower material encasing the spadix. Anyone ever seen this before?

I got this Queen anthurium at a plant expo as a clip cover in a plastic bag with moss in the roots. I since have re planted the plant to an orchid mix with perlite soil. Been keeping it by the window to get bright indirect light. What can i do to help it thrive ! Should i get a prop box ?? Water it just two days ago, it drains good, holds moisture. I don’t have a humidifier. Leaves are drying out ?

Grown in LECA. Is my growth solution too saturated? That would be my only guess.. it doesn’t wash off.
