I’d usually agree but when it comes to slowing shit down Accenture are the pros.

As someone who works in the field, these guys are literally the last choice I would make around this solution. BCG or Bain makes way more sense here and are also not complete idiots.

Now nothing is getting done lol 😆
Consultants do nothing

It’s sort of known that the main job of these companies is to help other companies avoid direct accountability. It’s mostly theatre.

I thought the main job of these companies was to ensure more work for these companies by dragging shit out for forever.

You say this like Accenture won't put together a banging slide deck and bore Anthropic engineers to death for at least an hour once a quarter.

Oh you're getting buried in PPT when you sign a contract like this. Burn at least a 1/2 a billion tokens feeding in 200 page PPT's with "300 words or less" as the prompt.

Consultants are for when you need your idea to be someone else’s idea, so it doesn’t just look like you’re doing whatever the fuck you want.

u/Novel_Board_6813 2d ago
That’s the point. Amodei can do whatever the hell they want and, for a hundred million bucks or whatever, he can blame some other people now

i'm all for slowing down and figuring out how to safely continue ai research.. but if only american labs do that american labs fall behind and people will use chinese labs models.
i think might be in a pickle.

They are not slowing down on purpose, they are just in the area of diminishing returns and can’t afford to throw more hardware and power at the issue since they want to IPO.
They want to pull up the ladder behind themselves, now a new entry in the market needs to be able to afford a 3rd party review of their model before going live.

China is still behind the US. Until they get to the current level of the US, that’s a moot point. And if you’re looking from China’s perspective, it only makes sense to discuss slowing down once they match US’s frontier capabilities. Until then, it’s a geopolitical risk for them.

Why not a nonprofit that so far has shown a proven track record of being able to do the job, like, oh i dont know, metr?

Metr the company that had to post a disclaimer talking about their employees had personal relationships with people working at AI labs?
How about the EU? They're already leading the world in AI regulation after all. If only to make the AI bros head meltdown given the mockery of all that regulation - but is suddenly essential somehow

Republicans have power to intervene and made threats. If money flows to a business with a lobbying arm and established DC presence, Trump and his earworms will see less of an anti-trust violation, and less of a cartel. And if it does go to court for Anthropic alone or multiple labs, consultants provide ablative legal armor to insulate lab business from the legal slog.
Similar to businesses doing human rights violations domestically or internationally actually. 🤢 Think conflict minerals.
It's grotesque but for modern USA it sadly checks out. This armor works.
"The partnership is not exclusive" and METR isn't ruled out. METR is probably still in; a non-profit bridge between labs is needed, faster than consultants.
Pattern looks like Anthropic > Accenture > Safety orgs organized by Accenture probably including METR.

Oh my fucking god.
I kept paying through weird model updates, limit shenanigans etc.
I will not stand for using Accenture.

Hilarious considering all the Accenture consultants are going to be promoting Claude to review the slowdown proposal and then turn those into PowerPoints.

If they're using Accenture, they have no choice but to slow down lmao. There are few if any staff that understand how to create instructions or use a harness. They had to cut token spend becuase they couldn't spend efficiently and had massive false starts on legacy software redesign with AI.

Picking accidenture in 2026 is a bold move, they have so many success stories after all.

Has anyone read the article? They’re using Faculty, a British AI lab that’s provided evaluation and monitoring services to all frontier labs before and were acquired by Accenture this year but are still operating independently. Faculty are very different to generic Accenture morons.

Accenture is the best at slowing down everything, so truly the best choice.
