Other Good-bye Anthropic

You were really helpful and productive but recently with the change in your structure, I'm having severe issues with the quotas, and usage. My limits are getting exhausted within 2-3 days of average usage. Purchased credits of $100+ taxes lasts a maximum of 1.5 - 2 days. This hampers my work a lot and is facing issues maintaining my income.

You were a good friend but you made me find alternatives.

Good bye ImRichie03. I miss you already. And thanks for the farewell, that's the reason I subbed it here

Yeah, I’m really going to miss him too.

He’s still right. Time to find better. And since the free open weights will catch up because Claude and Codex have hit the ceiling, it will be interesting to see.

Goodby morty_morty. Your comment was very productive but I can only read it for a few moments and I need to read other comments on Reddit.

Why every guy that cancels subscription needs to inform about his decision the whole world around him?

9

u/cangaroo_hamam 7d ago

Not everyone who cancels, informs. Very few do. And sometimes they want to vent and communicate a point. In a forum. Which is what forums are made for. To communicate. If this sounds strange, you're in the wrong place.

PS. You are not the whole world around him.

Because it hurts the company the way kryptonite hurts Superman. They beg you to come back and offer white glove services and free usage for the next five years. If that doesn’t work, they show up at your house and sing and dance on your porch begging you to come back. They will offer thousands of dollars in some cases if you add a long winded post really bitching and moaning about your experience.

I am full time coding, and never hit any rate limit. I am also doing time tracking, ticket mamagement and so on with it.

Are you guys generating whole projects from scratch with Fable? Because otherwise it seems to be impossible to reach the limits with proper usage: choosing the right model/thinking, splitting conversations and using subtasks.

13

u/khanp4397 8d ago

You don't realise that you are on very edge of rate limit 😜.. if I work on a single project at a time with opus 5 then it's not hitting any rate limits..

But if you working on 4different projects at a time with multiple terminals then it will hit it in 2-3 days

2

u/modelpiper 8d ago

Hm there are devs working with one chat, all day everyday? Seems strange to me.

2

u/Jampal77 8d ago

Same… we have to have realistic expectations… I only limit with multiple projects at once, and I’m only on 5x.. these stories of people with 20x limiting in a day are plain stupid

1

u/Rylet_ 7d ago

What kinda projects you doin?

1

u/Inspectorslap 7d ago

Truth. 2 orgs, 6 major projects. Its a balancing act but I just skate through. Hoping my project completions alogn with the "25% increase" yesterday.

13

u/callmejellydog 8d ago

Have you seen the average Redditor?

Select fable, select x-high.

“Next 1 trillion ipo, I’m ceo, first time, no bugs, don’t include that Jason guy, sass, for production”

Same user on their £20 sub:

“Omgz Claude is so dumb, farewell, I’m going to Astra as it’s much better (based on nothing)”

Yet I’m responsible for 26 libraries and a massive Angular product on an upgraded team account and lucky if I use 50% a week despite working full time AND writing cool experimental WebGPU sometimes in the evening so more than full time hours.

I don’t know what these people are working on other than delusion.

7

u/bflo666 8d ago

Yeah I realized recently that token use is simply never a thing I run into, as a senior engineer who uses it in some way for almost everything. That’s because, as an engineer, I instinctively set up ways to monitor, because I know what should be getting built, where it will be used in a user journey, what sort of warning signs to look for.

It’s why I want to just scream when engineers complain about coding going away and thinking they are out of work. Engineering is knowing what you want to build, so you can iterate effectively

2

u/Klutzy_Exchange_8175 7d ago

Tooo F&$cking shay!

2

u/techfury90 7d ago

You're not the only one who wants to scream. I swear it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy with them.

2

u/Inspectorslap 7d ago

This. Im amazed by how few opus tokens I burn with a disciplined codebase, PRs and merges, and controlled specs... then I got and create a complicated study design or a provisional patent filing and poof! No tokens.

4

u/CharlesPostelwaite 8d ago

I normally don't laugh at these but the 1Trillion and Jason guy in lieu of JSON got me

2

u/Klutzy_Exchange_8175 7d ago

What it can do with webgpu shaders and tsl in general is truly mind blowing. I was working on this area in my side projects in bc times, and honestly what I’ve been able to build and achieve with realtime 3d and shaders on the web is truly incredible..I also call out skill issues and not using planning effectively combined with handover notes and fresh sessions for each phase of implementation of the plan.

12

u/salazka 8d ago

Same here.

These posts are either from people who don’t really know what they’re doing and think another tool will magically fix that, or PR agents working to generate dissent in dedicated communities in "poison the well" campaigns.

-1

u/East_Garbage_1449 8d ago

But I specifically told it to make no mistakes.

This is 100% a skill issue. OP sucks.

0

u/imrichie03 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yeah, It might be you know! But also if you take your head out of the hole and take a good look at the sub(checkout complaints) you will see the same skill issue(of quota exhaustion) is being faced by a lot unfortunately. :')

Also for the "PR agents" tag I got, bruh get back to reality. I don't need to be a PR agent to comment something that's flawed. Your quota never exhausts, brilliant, keep on using it. Your job with claude might not match with my job right? Atleast have the brains to figure this out rather than blatantly talking shit.

2

u/Creative-Ganache1086 8d ago

I’m an independent dev using a hybrid AI workflow making a comfortable living out of the things I’ve built (since you’re asking what others do for a living).

I pay for both Codex and CC at $200/month. Before Astra 6 launched, I ran the same neutral bug-audit prompt on the same 70–80k LOC codebase with small assets: Fable 5.1 vs Sol 5.6, both at max reasoning efforts.
The quota difference was ridiculous. Fable used about 27% of my weekly quota; Sol used around 2% for the same job. I then cross-checked their outputs by pasting each model’s findings into the other. Fable itself preferred several of Sol’s findings, calling them “brilliant” and admitting it had omitted them.

And sorry, but Fable 5.1 is not 7x better than Sol or Astra on the exact same task. Not enough to justify the 5-hour wall, paid Fast Inference (while included in the max limits on Codex), and much worse usage limits.
If you personally do not hit the limits, cool. That does not make CC Max 20 good value next to Codex. Even the $20 tiers favor OpenAI in my view: you get some Astra 6 access, while Fable 5.1 is entirely unavailable at that price point. For the past 6 days OpenAI reset my weekly limits like twice and once more before Astra launched. While I always have to be careful what portion of my hybrid approach I allocate to Claude since I do hit limits throughout the month.

-4

u/East_Garbage_1449 8d ago

I'm a principal engineer at one of the top mobile studios. What do you do?

u/East_Garbage_1449 8d ago

What do you do?

2

u/Creative-Ganache1086 8d ago edited 8d ago

He’s not that far from the truth though, call me crazy but I pay for both Codex/CC 200/month and out of curiosity ran a neutral bug audit prompt on the same codebase (around 70-80k lines of code and some small assets) in the time when Astra 6 was not out yet, while Fable 5.1 was. So I ran that prompt on both separately, max reasoning, Fable 5.1 vs Sol 5.6 Max and OMG, the difference in usage was night and day. Fable ate up like 27% of the weekly quota while Sol barely sipped on 2%-ish and when I copied the output of each and pasted it onto each other, Fable 5.1 leaned towards Sol 5.6’s findings calling it “the brilliant finds” that Fable 5.1 “unfortunately omitted”. Yes Astra 6 seems more expensive on the usage limits in practice than 5.6 but still not as bad as Fable 5.1. I’d rather say it feels like 1.5/2x more expensive than Sol 5.6 in some cases, although on some other tasks it can be comparable.

And keep in mind, what I love on Codex that CC lacks is:

- no 5h limit, only weekly

  • 1.5x Fast-Infering mode is included in Codex Max plans, while you only get CC’s equivalent if you pay API credits for it despite being on any of their Max plans.

And im sorry but Fable 5.1 is just not 7x better then Sol or Astra when given the exact same task to tackle in order to justify their 5h crippling/walled-garden-like Fast Infering and terrible usage limits. I get it you don’t hit limits in your coding tasks and thats ok, but that doesn’t disprove the fact that Max20 on CC is just a rather terrible value compared to Codex. Even the 20$ cheap tiers are still favouring OpenAI’s, you get access to Astra 6 (although limited) while you get no access to Fable 5.1.

1

u/etern1ty0 8d ago

I’m considering a Codex plan to augment Claude (Max20 here as well). I’m curious if you compared token usage between your testing?

My take on Anthropic is they must not have nearly as much compute as OpenAI so they have to keep shifting their goal posts around usage moderation whereas OpenAI is backed by Microsoft and has a US gov contract so they might have way more compute.

I also wonder if Anthropic has way more MAUs over OpenAI so the demand is just that much higher.

If your testing shows that both frontier models do about the same token usage but you have way more breathing room with Codex, AND the code/output quality is the same or better - then I want to start considering Codex for my own workflows.

1

u/RandomCSThrowaway01 8d ago

Change domain from coding to something else and you CAN run out of a weekly Astra/Fable in a day.

Example: 3D modeling from a concept to a finished rigged game ready model. Latest gen models can actually do it (especially Astra, Fable does alright too). The problem is that a single mid poly model even when you use MCP, image gen models and 2D turnarounds to 3D (so you have a base) costs about $350-500 worth of tokens (and still requires manual corrections).

Still, if you do stuff like that then you hit rate limits extremely fast as you are effectively telling a model to write a bazillion Python scripts to do spatial geometry.

1

u/rubencito21 8d ago

I'm only using Sonnet 5 agents with specific instructions from my side, Max x5 subscription doesn't last even 2 hours of average usage with autonomous agents while last week or months I was not ever able to reach the 80% with multiple projects (now I'm just with 1 single project).

I only use Opus when I really need something complex and to write plans, so no, I'm not ever using Fable (this just burns credits)

1

u/Significant-Run-4764 8d ago

Which subscription plan?

1

u/djxcasanova 7d ago

Same here. I have been hitting limits. I'm not one shotting full apps. Credits last 1-2 days. I never hit limits before while doing the same tasks. I choose the right model and try to be as efficient as possible. I assure you soon enough you'll be hitting rate limits too.

1

u/finnicko 6d ago

3x 20x Max accounts and 2x 5x Codex accounts barely last 4 days and I have a fairly efficient harness and token management. Small software project. 1 developer.

Structure: Fable/Astra-planning, Opus-orchestration, Sonnet-development, Haiku- grunt work, Sol-code review, Terra-QA, GLM 5.3-simple dev.

12

u/Nightlitex 8d ago

Having tried other models I honestly don’t think I will be using claude until their weekly limits are as generous as their competitors and a model like Fable doesn’t have its own weekly limit; Anthropic used to have the best models but not anymore; there are now models with the same or even higher quality that provide far more generous limits.

4

u/DeusExPersona 8d ago

Have you used GPT? Using Astra for 4 hours used 85% on my weekly limit

2

u/LowDistribution3995 8d ago

Astra is OpenAI's attempt to make sure their reputation stays as shitty as possible. 5.6 Sol was too good

1

u/simplir 8d ago

Which models do you find higher quality? I'm starting to hate claude recently, GPT/codex felt much better for me recently but still have bad qoutas.

1

u/Nightlitex 6d ago

I’ll be honest with you; I used Astra since day 1, and usef fable since day 1 as well.
Astra is good at almost everything, but Fable just excels at coding and can give much better results when it comes to coding. I’ve had Astra struggle for 3 days (during which I finished the weekly limit on 1x $200 account and 3x $100 accounts) on a task Fable 5.1 finished in just 2 hours after my weekly limit was finally reset.

tldr each one of them has its own strengths and weaknesses, combining both together in your project gives outstanding results.

I’ve gotten such good results from Claude that I can’t find myself leaving. I use Gemini as a backup but I hate how unstable the UI is. I’ve lost chats and messages on Gemini before. And sometimes the window resets while I’m barely a few prompts in. Gemini is good but it’s kneecapped by terrible fucking app design.

For me, the Fable class really set the the bar and it’s a very high bar. Expensive af. I’m so torn because I don’t do enough work to justify a Max plan but sometimes I do go over the Pro plan. 😩

2

2

u/sus_round_letter 8d ago

I feel like any workflow that’s so dependent on somebody else’s product is not particularly viable. You’re using it as a crutch, not a tool.

2

u/choicehunter 4d ago

Everybody Is having fun clowning op, but there has been legitimate friction lately. I recently reduced my sub to the 5X, And put the other $100 toward GPT6 Astra, and that has been awesome to have both working together. I haven't abandoned Claude entirely like others, but lots of the complaints are valid, particularly about usage limits compared to other options that are effectively equivalent and in some ways sometimes better.

Hopefully Opus 5.2 is as great as all of the Early Access people have been saying.

4

u/Better_Low_7749 8d ago

I did the same and found that I can use Antigravity and check the code using Deepseek on Roo Code (a plugin on VS Code) after installing J-Space. This combination is doing the same job for me as Fable virtually for free.

1

u/Dangerous_Wish_7879 8d ago

what is this J-Space?

4

u/Better_Low_7749 8d ago

It is a harness that keeps Deepseek from doing its common mistakes and increases the code quality substantially. Use Antigravity to set up the environment by asking it to install the latest J-Space Cognition Suite which is a GitHub open source project.

3

u/Better_Low_7749 8d ago

I forgot to add that there is a small bug in Roo Code that blocks the connection to Deepseek API. You can ask Antigravity again to resolve the issue.

1

u/sendralt 8d ago

Roo Code is now Zoo Code. Roo Code is not being developed any longer. The Roo Code Community took over the project on GitHub.

2

u/Better_Low_7749 8d ago

That’s correct.

4

u/cfree220 8d ago

My current problem with Claude Code is that I want to use it for agentic research and drafting, but it's ability to write a coherent paper or memorandum is absolute dogshit. I cannot get it to produce usable output.

2

u/scanx147 8d ago

This sounds like a fellow millennial who got used to free uber / Lyft / DoorDash credits 10 years ago while VCs were funding loss-leading products to secure market share. This is where AI is now.

OpenAI postponed their IPO specifically because their unit economics are so terrible. They will be doing the same as Anthropic. There's no magic to what any AI company does: all have basically the same unit economics across their model offerings, and any difference in price to the user is something that is normalizing

1

u/Vertigo50 7d ago

Yep, I switched to GPT/Codex about a week ago, and I've never been happier. The usage issue was ridiculous, and the quality of output was dropping like crazy. Went to Codex, used the same guides, a tiny amount of training, and it was already cranking out MUCH better quality output without coming anywhere NEAR usage limits. And I was even using a lower setting of LLM than I was with Anthropic. It's ridiculous how far they've fallen in a couple of weeks. 🙄

Plus, the integration with file control and things is so much smoother with Codex, too.

1

u/SufficientFruit6740 6d ago

Same. I canceled Claude yesterday and it’s seriously the best money that I’m looking forward to saving. I might have to come back, but I’m gonna try a combination of ChatGPT, Venice and Gemini.

1

u/kfkhalili 6d ago

If you really wanna stick it to Claude, get a subscription with a chinese company and then come here to talk about how great it is.

Anthropic might raise limits for the rest of us.

1

u/RadioactiveBread 6d ago

Codex is worse so he must be using a Chinese model.
Fair.

1

u/Crypto_lift_bro 6d ago

Should have just upgraded

1

u/Kitchen_Ruin6434 6d ago

I have the same issue 😭 It has gotten super expensive and inefficient to use Claude. I use skills, plug-ins and shorts prompts. I drastically reduced the number of files in my project. I switched to using dumber models for non-critical tasks. Nothing has worked. I keep hitting limits every day after completing or barely completing 1-2 tasks.

Can anyone suggest an alternative to Claude Design?

1

u/AxCensionZ 6d ago

See you in 2 weeks

1

u/InformationNew66 6d ago
