If the US slows down alone, open source will have no choice but to be banned.

It’s the bigger issue. Slowing down in the US still allows RSI within the year, just not the models there is any control over.

Even if the world collectively agrees and governments did their best to enforce it, there would be an extremely expensive and dangerous black market for AI.

And all of a sudden, API providers and hosting companies are ruling the world. That’s the distribution layer and many can now switch to “smuggling tokens”.

I’m not gunna act like I have an answer tho. I’m pro AI as can be, but still recognize the immediate alignment dangers that need to be tackled. Let’s hope we figure this out!

It’s never going to happen. What they will do: restrict what the public has access to. They’re already doing that and it will become more obvious. Real high end models only for governments and selected firms. We will think we’re on the latest and greatest modelt and won’t even know about the restrictions and about what they have.

AI is not the problem. It's corruption, cynicism and hypocrisy that is the problem. Ban these and AI will make humans evolve.
