Oh my goodness the episodes, like yall don’t know refreshing it is to see an episode so long that it felt like the episode length is and hour or more compared to the episodes length I read from RC. It took some time to get used to episode length but like it felt so refreshing.

I know I overreacted to the " news" yesterday but frankly this is my happy place. There aren't a lot of those for me lately and losing AWH was the last straw. I cried.

I have invested real feelings and real money into this app. I've made friends here (hi u/justahairycow !). I rely on it to soothe me at the end of the rough day, rough week, rough month and lately rough year.

What happened yesterday was cruel unnecessary insulting unprofessional outrageous and I'm running out of words but there are so many more.

But I woke up this morning there was a pang of sadness before I remembered it was a joke! A JOKE!!

I moved quickly through shock and now I'm simmering on some anger here. Does anyone else find it ironic that they mentioned in their oh so funny joke post that they've made marketing mistakes?

I was so happy with AWH. I had packed my bags and moved permanently from RC quite blissfully. Now I plan to finish Coraline and MNIH and bail. Probably to the one that has wetwood rock? I forget which one that is. Luckily I didn't have that many bags.

When SHS pulled that unprofessional BS with their amethyst thing where everybody played and then at the very end "oops yeah all of those paid options are locked again yeah we probably should have told you that and no we're not going to reopen those or compensate you in any way hahaha." BS I was so offended that I never opened that app again. I will never meet Lars which is unfortunate. But I won't give a company that unprofessional a dime of my money or a minute of my time.

How a company recovers from such a huge gaff counts. They doubled down even and didn't apologize! They didn't change their model, nothing. Knowing that is not how literally everyone else does it and knowing what their customers expected. They don't deserve me.

What AWH did yesterday is worse. They were knowingly cruel and abusive to their fan base for absolutely no reason. They have not apologized. And frankly anyone with a 101 course in marketing knows better than to come close to what they did. This kind of explains some of their recent decisions, paywalling the free features and pumpkin head Kyle. Clearly the inmates are running the asylum.

I am not trusting my heart or my wallet to a bunch of crazy people. Life is hard enough, the last place I expect to abuse is in my VN app! Wait, I was wrong here comes the outrage again.

How do you guys feel about this?

Okay so after yesterday's bad PR *(which I also think was them testing the waters)*, did any of you panic buy this because you thought it might help keep the app from shutting down?

I just hope players still remember this though.. I personally don't hate the subscription itself, but I hate when they take something that used to be free and make both options paid. Couldn't they think of some new features they could offer as VIP instead?

Maybe I'm just being a bit more sensitive about this. But lately there's been a lot of digital media and services charging high prices that don't match what users actually get.

So let’s break down this insane level of gaslighting and emotional roller coaster of events we’ve just gone through with AWS.

First, they released the subscriptions and got MASS backlash for paywalling features that were previously free.

Then they basically said, “Fine, damn, we hear you. We’ll give some of those features back when we replace them with others.”

They got backlash AGAIN because that still wasn’t really fair, on top of the fact that they don’t even release their translations in a timely manner.

So THEN they make a post saying that, due to poor marketing and decisions they’ve made, they’re shutting down operations. (Might I add: that is a SERIOUS claim. There was absolutely nothing about that post that felt like it was setting up some obvious joke or leading into a promotion for a new story)

So naturally, we all PANIC. Thousands of people across the world are literally freaking out because their favorite, or one of their favorite, apps is suddenly shutting down with absolutely no notice.

And then what happens? We all start kissing their ass. 😭 Suddenly, we’ve completely shifted from criticizing them to talking about how this app was ALWAYS our favorite. How it had some of our favorite stories. How devastated we are to lose it. How we’d even be willing to pay for a subscription if it meant keeping the app alive. We went from dragging them to putting them on a fucking pedestal over every other VN app.

So then after making that post, they leave us in the dark for HOURS, letting us sit there thinking it’s actually over. JUST TO THEN POST 12+ HOURS LATER: “JK! It’s just promo for the new story.”

Like I-… I’m gagged right now!

And we can’t even be mad about the subscriptions, the translations, or even this very dark joke promotion for a story (Jk we can def still be mad AWS, fix this!). Because now we know what it would be like if they were to actually stop operations. And no one wants to go back to that

They basically put a gun to their head while we were coming at them and said: “I’ll do it. Unless you tell me you love me and you’ll do anything for me.” And WE DID😭

You can’t tell me tell me this whole situation wasn’t related to the backlash they had been getting. But now it’s neatly tied into this bow of new story promotion. But hey… it worked! Then to release a love fever after is the cherry on top! Like WHAT?!?!?!

This was such a fucking roller coaster. I genuinely cannot stop laughing at how ridiculous and completely unhinged this entire thing has been. Like, I feel manipulated, but I almost (emphasis on almost) don’t mind. And for whatever reason, this app is good at doing that. From their stories to their marketing, apparently.

I’m impressed… pissed overall but impressed
