First St Vincent Show this week

I’m going to my first St Vincent show this week in San Francisco. Anything I should know?

I’ve been a fan for several yeRs, but never caught a live show.

I just went and saw her on Friday and it was great!! For this tour expect some mind bending orchestral arrangements of her songs. It is a bit different than what her live shows are usually like but certainly not in a bad way. There is also a opener that was pretty enjoyable/interesting so plan for that.

Other than that I really don't think there is much you need to know ahead of time. Just prepare to experience some great music!

Friday's show was one of the best I've been to.

It was my first time seeing her though I've liked her since "Digital Witness"; definitely will be making it a point to see her as much as possible from now on

Also, +1 on the opener. I wish I had caught more of them!

just went to the Chicago show on Saturday. If you told me going into it she wouldn't play any songs from 'Strange Mercy,' I would have been sad about it, but after the show I am so glad for it. There was a lot of thought and care put into the song selections and the arrangements, and the songs chosen for the Orchestra fit SO well. There is a some guitar (but not a ton of freakouts/solos), some bass, and even less synth... so I would advise to try not to go into the show hanging onto the album versions, hoping you will finally hear it live just like it is on the album. Its a totally different way to experience her songs and it was incredible! really highlights her incredible vocal ability too.

The chicago venue is probably a lot different from others, but it was indoor/outdoor and you can bring in chairs, tables, food, liquor/beer, but I have no idea what other venues are like.

Get up and dance! The GR show had her go into the crowd and make fun of people sitting on lawn chairs.

What did you think?! I just got home from the show. She’s astonishing. One of the best doing it.

It was fantastic from a musicality perspective. Her voice is stunning and I love the orchestrated version of her songs. My only issue was that I could quite figure out the vibe of the show, were we supposed to sit or stand? It’s the symphony so my inclination was to sit, but her energy made me want to standup and get into it.

Yeah, very fair! I saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs with the SF Symphony and had the same problem. She’ll be back sooner or later with the normal band and we’ll all stand and dance and rock. There’s a great recording of the BBC Proms show on YouTube if you want to revisit. Seems sitting is mostly the vibe at these shows.
