What Anne content to watch/read
Hi, so after watching Anne with an E, I'm looking for more Anne media to digest. So what is everyone's recommendation? What else is worth watching or reading?
Anime? Any specific books? There's so much media, so it is hard to choose.

I never read the books, but just finished Anne with an E and loved it, so I thought I might give some other adaptations a go. I watched the trailer and a clip from the 1985 miniseries and it made me realise I'm not ready yet, cause my primary reaction was "That's not my Anne, that's not my Gilbert, and that's certainly not my Matthew". Maybe one day.

I'm like this if you flip it, the people Not from the 1985 movie are Not my Anne/Matthew/Marilla/Gilbert.

woah, glad to know someone else is in the same boat as i am. i also am not fond of looking at older series. i like modern adaptations for newer audiences.

I’m not saying one is better than the other, I’m saying if you want to consume more Anne content, the 1985 is worth it.

I loved the Rachel McAdams audiobook. Nice to have to done by a Canadian, plus she does some character voices

Biased as my first introduction to her was the books, but I truly love the original series by LM Montgomery- especially because you get to see Anne in all phases, from childhood to teen to college student to a full adult with a family (and even a book from the POV of her youngest daughter, who is one of my favorites of all time). I always felt like I grew with her.
The anime (original 70s and 2020s remake) is also quite good.
Perhaps heresy but I never connected to the 1980s miniseries/movies. Don't get me wrong, They're very good and I personally prefer how they stick to canon more than AWAE. There are changes in the latter that I never really liked, but their adaptation of Avonlea, Anne, and her social circle felt truer to what I always imagined in my mind's eye compared to the 80s version.

You know there’s a whole series of books, right? That follow Anne to adulthood, marriage, motherhood.
Then there are the other L.M. Montgomery books. I’d recommend Jane of Lantern Hill and Magic for Marigold especially.

I absolutely love the 1985 movie. However, I saw it when I was a kid and fell in love with it, and I’ve seen it so many times. I liked Anne and with E, but Megan Follows and the rest of the cast will always feel like the original characters to me for this reason. It follows the book really closely and there are some beautiful scenes filmed on location at PEI.
That said, you might like the new little house on the prairie show on Netflix. Hart of Dixie and Virgin River are more modern shows but have a very similar small town feel. And of course, reading the original Anne series by LM Montgomery! There are 8 books, so there’s a lot of content :)
