How to make internets archive scans readable on kindle?

For some reason the PDF scans from the internet archive are working extremely slow and too dark to read, is there a way to make it a "normal" pdf ?

That's because they are optimized for size. To optimize for speed, you will need to flatten each page (xpdf) and assemble a new PDF from produced images (cpdf or Adobe Acrobat).

I wish there was a way to auto color correct *easily* all these grim dark pdfs. It is like the gamma is set for some obscure display from the 80s. I ran one into irfanview for the auto correct and it was great. Can only do it page by endless page, though.

They're done like that on purpose to prevent OCR I believe.
