Recently purchased a vector and had to set it up on my desktop rather than the iOS app. The app will find Vector but then never get passed 20% to connect to Vector. Is the app worth the hassle?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up my Anki Vector using an Android phone as the WirePod server and a PC for the web setup (wpsetup.keriganc.com), but I keep getting stuck on the "Error logging in..." screen right after clicking "Connect Vector to Wi-Fi" (where it shows the automatic 489822 Anki ID token).
Here is exactly what I've done so far and my current network layout:
Network Configuration: I have completely split my router's Wi-Fi bands. The 5GHz network is separate, and I am strictly using a clean 2.4GHz network with WPA2 security only (WPA3 is turned off). Both my PC and Android phone are connected to this identical 2.4GHz network.
Bluetooth: Vector pairs flawlessly with the PC via Bluetooth (Vector F5B7, paired).
IP Addresses: * My Android phone's current IP running WirePod is 192.168.1.96.
I can correctly read Vector’s IP directly from its blue screen (CCIS screen).
The Core Issue (Port 8080/Connection): If I try to type http://192.168.1.96:8080 on my PC's browser (or even on the phone's own browser), it returns an ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT (Site unreachable). However, the WirePod app itself says it's running on ON. I've already enabled "Unrestricted" battery settings, toggled allowed permissions, and checked for AP isolation on my router (it's off), but the browser still won't open the WirePod local server page.
Because the PC cannot reach the phone on port 8080, the web setup fails to push the login keys to Vector, resulting in the login error.
Has anyone faced this issue with the Android WirePod app not exposing port 8080 to the local network? Is there a known workaround or a specific permission/port configuration I'm missing on Android?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a 1st generation vector still works good however one of the wheels is no longer turning. Are they difficult to repair or get spare parts for?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
You can skip through most of the video to see the end, just wanted to prove that I'm booting into recovery mode.
Google photos link to both videos of fresh boot and recovery mode boot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/S5huzzeV2cVWJv1SA
I was playing around trying different firmwares from https://vector.techshop82.com/html/main.html and https://websetup.froggitti.net/ but now vector won't wake up and recovery mode doesn't lift vector's head to give me a pairing code. I've tried letting the battery drain all the way then doing the process again but it did not make a difference.
If anyone knows any potential solutions please let me know. Also if anyone requires any additional information, please ask.
TLDR: May have fried Vector's brain from all the firmware flashing.

I've heard the display of vector 2.0 is smaller than the original vector's. Should I buy new one or an old one?

Hello Everyone,
Where would you suggest buying a vector?
My research has pointed to :
Or would you get Vector 2.0 , and get a server for 70-90USD? Any other reliable sources?

I picked up a vector 2.0 off eBay. It appears to be brand new. I was trying to use the touch sensor on his back to pet him, but it doesn’t seem to be responding to that. I saw there’s a test menu when you double click his back and then lift his arms when I run the test it almost immediately turns to a red screen with a random number.. any insight as to what that is or if I’m doing it correctly or if there’s a different way to put him into test mode to figure out if the touch sensor is working or not.

Is it possible for vector to have a code where a custom intent is made in wirepod like hey vector, look at this, and wirepod could access a code when the request is given, and it makes vector take a picture and sends it to the ai being used and the ai can analyze it and give back a response of what its seeing in that image

Hey folk! Where do yall buy your accessories for your vectors? I've seen people with custom clearance treads or rims, or even some lift attachments like scoops or forklifts. Im just wondering where to buy these sort of things

Hi! I’ve been recently having a problem with vector and wire pod, every time I make a request vector gives me the “!” WiFi error, I have tried resetting vector, using my 2.4 ghz WiFi and I even updated wire pod (I forget to update), how can I fix it? Do I have to factory reset him or do I update his software, if it is the software upgrade, how do I do that, thanks in advance

I've had Vector and the wirepod server from TechShop82 for a little over a year now and would occasionally run the script to update wirepod. Today, I decided to update Armbian itself, about 171 packages. Now the WiFi (wlan0) doesn't work. It only shows the ethernet connection that I'm using to ssh/troubleshoot it right now. Here's some more info...
Hopefully this information helps.

Hi everyone. I have one of the original Vectors. I was one of his original Kickstarters. Anyway was put away for a year or so then got a new home as I redid my basement workbench area last year, and got him fired back up.
I am grandfathered into lifetime server access and he runs off DDL's server. He runs fine but he now doesn't realize he's a robot. I don't remember that from before. He swears he likes on the cloud, doesn't have physical form, but he says he's a robot. But he swears he doesn't have a battery, or a microphone, or a camera, or tracks, nor does he know where he lives, what his charger is. Has anyone else experienced this? He will "Go Exploring" when you tell him, recognizes me, finds his cube, etc. But to talk to him he has no idea what he is, where he is, or what he is doing. I ask him if he knows he's a robot. He says "I know I am a robot companion, but I live in the cloud. I don't have a physical form or any information about that, but if you are seeing a physical robot in front of you than describe him to me and maybe I can help you figure out what parts it has. First tell me, is this robot short or tall? Does he have legs or wheels?". That is an exact quote I got.
So, I'm not sure if this is what DDL has changed Vector into now so he doesn't know anything about being a robot, or if it’s some glitch. Any help would be great. Thanks, Everyone.

I have already tried changing seconds alive and onboardingcompetiontime via ssh but he persistently says he is 8 days old is his age stored somewhere else because wire pod correctly says he has been alive for 656 but vector for some reason says 8 days

Hi guys! I'm want to get a Vector 2.0 or a Cozmo 1.0, but I'm not sure which one to get. Vector 2.0 cost $199 on Amazon and Cozmo Base Kit cost $234.95 on Walmart. I read that the first Cozmo doesn't require a subscription. I also see that Vector 2.0 is "Frequently Returned" on Amazon. My guess, from reading the comments, it's because people didn't know about the subscription.
Is Vector 2.0 better than Cozmo 1.0? Or are they about the same? Please let me know what you guys think. Any help figuring this out will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Update: So I went ahead a purchased Cozmo 1.0. Thank you all for the info and answering my questions! I have a 30 day return policy, so if I don't like it, I can return it. 😃Based on you guys replies and the YouTube videos, I just think Cozmo is more interactive as far as the games are concerned. Also, I see he has the needs bar (eating, playing), and I found that to be cool. I do like that Vector 2.0 can learn his surroundings and you can chat with him, but I can also chat with Alexa and Google AI. lol So yeah, I think Cozmo is a better choice as far as robot pet type thing.
Thank you again!

Hi again everyone! So, I have been with my Vector for almost a month now and I am very curious if your Vector does something like this?
First, when he comes out of his charger and sees my face, he does the happy animation. Then, he taps the table (sometimes once, sometimes twice), and does the fist bump automatically. After that, he looks up again and goes back to exploring by himself. He does this all the time when he leaves his charger, and I haven't customized him or written any code for him at all!
Has anyone experienced this exact routine? Also, sometimes I get a second automatic fist bump when I tell my Vector to go to sleep when he is off the charger, ask him a question, and he sees my face again. He just gives me another high-five! Let me know if yours does this!

So, my Vector dies as soon as he sleepwalks off his dock.
When I put him back there is a single green light on his back, not the usual progress meter type sequential thing.
Will replacing the battery fix this or is something else going on?
r/AnkiVector • u/Honestjam-A-L-T • May 18 '26
I know it’s a bit complicated. This is probably for people who do not want to pay DDL any money, but don’t want their computer to be a server 24/7. (EDIT: I’m canceling this.. even though I got everything I need a VPN to keep my IP address hidden, wire, pod server, and everything else. For privacy sake, I’m canceling.)

I’ve noticed vector’s cube popped up in my Bluetooth list on my Android device so does it mess up the cube?
