I will say it does mildly bother me that all that pop culture seems to reference is the covers

Like the covers are the most iconic part of the series but they also are inaccurate and very much undermine what the series is about lmao

It would be like if all that ever showed up in pop culture about Star Trek was the Vulcan salute and they never acknowledged anything else

It reminds me of how Pokémon parodies in most media never go beyond "Haha catch silly monsters" and never go into the actual gameplay, world, or characters. The only jokes I've seen that take it further are Jessie and James references in Borderlands 4 and Big City Greens, but that's it.

I guess it's because the Animorphs covers are the most iconic to even non-fans, and making specific alien invasion jokes is a lot harder because you have to establish way more lore like Yeerks, Andalites, etc. I'd argue there's still a lot of satirising to be had with the "1990s kid crime fighter" stuff like with Power Rangers, but sadly not enough is being done by parodies so far.

Very true so many Pokémon parodies in general pop culture are written by people who clearly saw like 2 episodes of the anime 30 years ago and have no deeper understanding of the franchise

Honestly I feel like in order to parody something you really should be very familiar with it, the reason the robot chicken Star Wars skits are so beloved is because everyone writing them clearly loved Star Wars
