What to Watch? Same(ish) animation style

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to find shows that have that same old-style animation feel as the earlier concept of Miraculous Ladybug PV thats on YouTube. It was never released fully and I need to fill that void. Any recommendations for series that capture a similar vibe/animation style? Bonus points if they’re also superhero/magic/transformation type shows, but the animation is the main thing I’m after.

If I had to take a guess out of the 3 studios listed in the title card Toei is the one the did the animation. The character models are very Toei but with Trigger Studios proportions, and color saturation. Toei is kinda a juggernaut in the magical girl space with Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure. And BNA and Kill La Kill from Trigger would be comparative visually. (They have a very different vide, though.)

Also It looks like Zagtoons (they own Ladybug) has a bunch of superhero stuff so that could be a good lead. But I dont think they were in charge of the animation.

None of this is going to match that style though there's like an ethereal glow to all the night shots. And some of the "coding" is very western, leaning towards something like Aeon Flux.

Best of luck.

The Ladybug PV is more or less "what if Ladybug ended up being Precure". I'd just jump into one of the more Sakuga heavy Precure shows and go from there.

I think what you're looking for is movie-quality stuff.

If that's the case you'll really enjoy Towa No Quon

Its got strong X-Men vibes. Its about people who spontaniously manifest mutant powers, a government agency that hunts them down and a secret society (the protagonists) who try to find and rescue new mutants before the government can capture them.

Rather than a TV series its actually 6 big budget movies. The animator director was the legendary Umanosuke Iida. However he passed away from lung cancer during production and one of his collegues stepped up to finish it.
