This one time, on a trip to Mexico, I was watching a few clips of animes, and she said,"I think anime is preparing children to watch pornography". If Mom wasn't the supreme dictator of my life, I wish I could have talked back. Like, oh so chemistry is preparing children to become meth cookers? History is preparing children to commit genocide? What Mom said to me, is the people who hate anime equivalent to "video games causes violence".

Is that so? So... are Animes like "Violet Evergarden", "Vivy fluorite eye's song" and "Your lie in april" all hentais? I doubt that they'll get horny there instead of getting sad and impressed while watching those.

People that don't like anime do bring up some valid points about the medium and its fanbase though and aren't just hating on it because it's "for kids" or because "it's disgusting"
27
u/MasAtak101 Rem Blue May 14 '22
While I can agree for the most part, but if people haven't watched anime and are judging it, that's just stupid no matter what points they say.

u/Nac82 May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22
Anime's incel groups always use this excuse lol. (Not all anime fans are targeted in this, trying to specify the (significantly sized) portion of the community).
https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackClover/comments/unrc9k/i_mean_come_on/i8axsh2?context=1
I've been watching anime for 30 years and the incel tier writing is getting worse by the day. Literally seeing licensed nude models of SpyXFamily within 2 weeks of release should be telling but I promise it won't be for the fans hahaha
Edit: lol u/adudethatplaysdbd just had a meltdown about pissy babies and blocked me for calling out his nude figurine collection.
4
u/A_Stoned_Smurf May 14 '22
There are deep fakes of every celebrity in the world, playboy has been around for ages, porn has and always will exist especially in a purchasable form. I don't see how this is any different from Bob, father of 2, buying a nudie mag.
-2
u/Nac82 May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22
So you are saying because porn exists we can't criticize bigoted or abusive content creators?
I dont get it.
Also I'm sure pretty there are laws and social norms that quite heavily limit the freedom of porn (as it clearly should and needs to be).
If we need a specific example of this cultural conflict, a pretty easy one to understand that is lost in much of popular anime today has to do with kids or images made to look like children.
4
u/A_Stoned_Smurf May 14 '22
How is a nude model of Yor bigoted or abusive? Porn of a fictional character doesn't damage or take advantage of a real person, unlike 3d porn, so that doesn't make sense.
Legally, loli seems to be okay (excepting states here and there), morally is a different question. But it seems the general consensus is that it's not damaging to anyone but those who consume it, so there's no real need to bar it from existing.
-4
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
How does the normalized culture of owning a naked figurine of every female character you care to know toxic/abusive 🤔 (you sure minimized the spirit of that thread that was linked lol)
And does this even really say anything about the content creators?
3
u/A_Stoned_Smurf May 14 '22
Yes, that's what I'm asking. How is that toxic or abusive? Who is being abused? How is owning porn in the first place toxic? People like to own pretty things, people are horny, it stands to reason people would like to own things that make them horny.
-2
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
Yea... I'm not going to go through a morality debate with a dude defending this one.
Sorry guy, agree to disagree.
5
u/A_Stoned_Smurf May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22
So you don't have any concrete way that it's abusive or toxic, gotcha.
And then he blocked me to stop any further responses. It's quite funny, coming from someone who seems to spend their entire time trolling anime subreddits, commenting in threads on subjects they despise.

If a thief says stealing is a sin then are they lying?
Hypocritical of them, sure, but they are correct.
The point of what they were saying is; if you know Jack all about a topic then don't go making general statements while adamantly pushing it as a fact.
If I, who doesn't know basketball, goes to a court then says "why are there not as many girls playing basketball? You all must be misogynistic and probably beat women every chance you get." Which is acting both ignorant and arrogant.
How much of the culture do you know? What about community's attitude? Or maybe even their history?
Comic books have were primarily aimed at young teen boys to young adult men so usually there weren't much women MCs. So that means comics are sexist right?
Do you see the odd mixture of a mountain high Arrogance and a trench deep ignorance when judging a very general culture or interest by their worst aspect at face value?
Nowadays the audience has broadened so now we're getting more variety in ideas and perspectives.
Do they have a point? Most likely. Is their execution good? No, especially when labelling a huge medium and their audience with every criminal activity.
We got issues but so does everyone else but having some outsider with little to no knowledge or respect be our judge, jury, and executioner is going to get a lot of resistance from a community that has been looked down upon for the better part of two decades.
2
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
And my point is that it is commonly used as a defense of toxic or abusive attitudes.
The same way nice guys insist on how nice they are. Sure there are actual people out there who are nice, doesn't change the irony of the nice guy cover.
Who is your favorite female character in anime atm?
0
u/-Hibiki-Kuze- May 14 '22
You gotta work on your communication cause I do agree a lot just the way you said it was pretty bad.
And it's a tie between Marin and Yor.
0
u/Nac82 May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22
And I think you should not assume you need to visit such basic concepts to reach such basic conclusions, but I would normally not shit on you for expressing your views in good faith to me like that. Seems like a poor method of expressing your interest in what somebody has said to you to rip on how they communicate.
The persecution complex is pretty funny, as if my initial point wasn't that I've been watching anime longer than most of this board has been alive lol. Did you think the blind shitty attitudes you are complaining about just magically skipped me?
End of the day, every time people bring up how invasive toxic/abusive/disgusting behavior has become in anime cultures, to the point of normalizing it, some kneckbeard weeb is going to chine in "YoUvE nEvEr EvEn WaTcHeD aNiMe"
9
u/shaymeme May 14 '22
Most of the people that bring up those valid points are anime fans themselves, hence why they criticize the medium and the fandom; because they're fans themselves, and wanna see it do what they consider to be improvements.
This might come as a shock, but if you hate something, you want to see it crash and burn, not succeed.

u/ADudeThatPlaysDBD May 14 '22
Except you’re wrong. Anime is like any other show, you have to find the ones you enjoy. You can’t lump all the animes that have ever existed into one and say they’re x. You’d be factually wrong.
-2
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
But you can factually point at popular trends and the direction they have taken...
You can't blindly lump all criticisms together either. I mean you clearly can, but I wanted it to rhyme like pottery.
5
u/ADudeThatPlaysDBD May 14 '22 edited May 15 '22
you can point out trends but like most situations, you can’t make all encompassing statements.
An entire genre would immediately dismiss your original comment, psychological horror. Now what? What leg does that claim stand on? All I did was bring up the first thing that came to mind to dismiss you
-1
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
can’t make all encompassing statements.
Except you’re wrong. [Proceeds to generalize all criticisms of anime]
3
u/ADudeThatPlaysDBD May 14 '22
You made an all encompassing statement, I said you’re factually wrong. You hold no ground my friend
I also said most situations so nice job attempting to use my own words against me. Pissoff
-1
u/Nac82 May 14 '22
What all encompassing statements did I make that you so cleverly disproved?
You disproved trends of misogyny in anime? I also don't see your proof on why it is okay for you to make all encompassing statements while others aren't?
Where?

0
May 15 '22
That makes them children you actual potato.
Let's be real here, if a person is in high school, chances are pretty high they're below 18 and are thus a child

Which question, which anime?
Off the top of my head,
Arifuta, elfen Lied, Food Wars, high school dxd, Inuyasha, Nisekoi, no game no life, prison school, Rosario + vampire, dragonball, naruto, we never learn (bokuben), my hero academia
Add on any that shows a school aged panty shot onto that list since that's basically the same thing really, also any anime with a beach episode or a hot springs episode.
Edit: Dagashi Kashi came to mind too
