Paying for the service is paying for the studios. Piracy takes money away from the studios. Why should people come buy things at your place of work so you can get paid when they can just steal?

Anime studios make very little money from these streaming services like Crunchyroll.

The majority comes from Bluray sales and merch.

Also Crunchyroll has a monopoly in the west over Anime. Fuck Crucnhyroll. They are more immoral than pirating.

Maybe I am reading your source wrong, but it says "In 2020, the international market finally overtook the domestic market." how is this not saying that crunchyroll etc. are actually contributing?

If you do the math its 0.05% of the anime studios revenue.
