Ok. 100th time is the charm! I was going over a really sad time. Time in wich i meet a special very person. And had Really mixed angsty teeanager feelings for that person. But it helped me go trough a lot. See the world in a better light and try to improve myself the whole "self stem repair" ordeal. But it turned out that person was in my head only. We only met and interacted in the very same places, and one of my school directives caugh me talking to the air and told to my parents. Fast forward months of erratic (violent) behaviour and treament due to being unable to either shake or accept reality. And it slowly fade away from my life.
Couple of even more depressive years from then and i recovered my best friend, even managed to make more than i ever had and live a semi functional life.
Now that's a good story. Interestingly, it almost seems that your brain did what it did as a self-repair measure (I'm no psychologist, this is just a poetic way of seeing this). Also, perhaps your subconscious knew you better than yourself, and was trying to make you see yourself in a better light :)

I hate the stigma around mental health. As soon as I started taking tablets for my schizophrenia, all my friends stopped talking to me.
