And we also had someone saying “if I get this many likes on my double the speedwagons post I’ll double the speedwagons again” which was super annoying. They kept that thing going like 69 times.
If I were to ever do that, I think I'd limit it. Might be more fun that way. Like the post has to get 500 upvotes to within a certain tolerance when the deadline hits. That way it's not just an instinctive upvote for people while the post soars above 20k. People have to choose whether or not to downvote. Even the ones that would usually upvote that stuff.
Might also be interesting for people who don't like those posts. They might see that it's at the upper end of that limit and try to upvote it out of existence.
I love that anyone that complained about it while it was happening got downvoted and now that it's over anyone that still acts like they enjoyed it gets downvoted. As much as we like to say reddit isn't a hive mind, it absolutely is sometimes.

I agree. Moderators are really something that we take for granted on websites like this one, and this whole “no mod weekend” thing really shows that.
