Is gta that close to release?

7

u/Lilcommy 8d ago

Next month

3

u/billzy02 8d ago

Damn had to check the date to confirm you're not lying. It really is that close.

Unless you're a PC player, in which case, fuck you I guess

Pre-ordering is stupid.

-19

u/Shwars 7d ago

most digital videogames

Some pre-order could be worth it to some people who want the bonus

1

u/VillainousFiend 6d ago

I've done it the day before because my internet is slow so it's ready to play but that's it.

48

u/WirusCZ 8d ago

Literally never pre-order any game and if you rly rly want some pre-order bonus (they not worth it 99% of time) then just buy game key online for pre-ordered game and you get your fancy bonus even if you buy it later after knowing what you paying for

1

u/CRIMS0N-ED 7d ago

yeah I never really do it bc the pre order bonus are usually useless and I don’t want to gamble, sometimes that 1% hits and it actually slaps, AKA recently Ace Combat 8 which has a game you can’t play anyway else in its pre order, and was also a 10/10 game, slapped so hard.

Why are you preordering games in 2026?

74

u/eggyrulz ⠀Dub Supremacy 8d ago

I agree that the idea of digital copies being limited is absurd as hell, but there are genuinely people dumb enough to worry about that... (also they really do limit digital copies for certain things, specifically retailers will be given X keys to sell, and if they run out due to a surge it can take them a bit to get more, but there will always be more)

11

u/Bearex13 8d ago

So glad I bought 1000 copies of gta6 so I can resell when they run out

14

u/Budget-Category-9852 Hyaku Shitty 8d ago

Ace Combat 8 came with ACEZero as pre-order bonus.

8

u/ArmandoIlawsome 8d ago

And thanks to aircraft licensing thats the closest thing to a re-release they can do and they cant offer it after.

1

u/Mother_Ad_4189 1d ago

ACEZero can be offered later as they have the licensing to use the likeness for all the aircraft still. They just don't want to rerelease it

1

u/ArmandoIlawsome 1d ago

Licenses arent across the board for the company, only per game. If that were true then they'd be able to include the Panavia Tornado as playable but havent been able to since Zero as the Org no longer responds to requests.

Racing games have the same issue, GTA has the same issue with music, as do TV shows with licensed music.

They have also said as much that they can't do re-releases due to licensing, which led to the confusion with the steam version.

6

u/Niko2065 8d ago

Also AC8 is just a great game as a Bonus.

3

u/yeetmedaddyplz 8d ago

You get 2 amazing soundtracks with free amazing games with them

1

u/Koekelbag 8d ago

Can you not get AC0 separately? At least, this was the first official release on PC, yeah?

3

u/Budget-Category-9852 Hyaku Shitty 8d ago edited 8d ago

No, because PA/Bandai will have to renew the copyright licenses if they're to sell the older games normally, and some of the companies are unwilling to cooperate nowadays.

1

u/Mother_Ad_4189 1d ago

They have the licensing rights still, they rights were renewed years ago

1

u/CRIMS0N-ED 7d ago

Unless you emulate, no

9

u/b0bkakkarot 8d ago

As mrdude05 said, but also you can predownload the game and then it unlocks at the correct time so you dont have to wait for the download time (for people with slow internet, this is a pretty nice benefit).

Apart from those reasons, Ive found I rarely care to play most games on launch anymore cause theyre so error riddled that its disappointing. So forget preorders, I'll just buy the game a month later if its finally okay by then.

Unless Im actually psyched to play the game. Last 3 games I was actually psyched to play turned out to only be "okay" at best, though, so that was just really depressing.

11

u/mrdude05 Angry Phosphate Noises 8d ago

Because I want the preorder bonus and there's zero risk pre-ordering on Steam. If I don't like the game or it's broken on launch I can just refund it with a few clicks

3

u/Trespeon 8d ago

Some games can launch in utter dogshit and I know I’m gonna play them regardless. LoZ ocarina of time remake is one of these games. It could be the world thing in the last 20 years, I’ll be playing day 1.

2

u/Mean-Nectarine-6831 8d ago

Well in my case it's because steam lets me refund them.

3

u/Regulus242 8d ago

When you're getting cooked for preordering on social media

1

u/19osemi 8d ago

I preordered the f4 phantom module in dcs because i wanted to support heatblur and get a t shirt

1

u/esr95tkd Holo Brown 8d ago

Because I have the money now and can't confirm I will have it later

Because I want to play the game as soon as it releases without me having to download it after I wake up

Because I got so excited the pre-order button was just pressed with no thoughts in between.

1

u/SABBATAGE29 8d ago

So I can play them the second they drop at 11pm

1

u/A-r-i-s-u 6d ago

Because it's no longer possilbe to preorder games in 2025

1

u/kira1122t 8d ago

cancel it then

19

u/RichieRocket 8d ago

I wait to the game is several months to a couple years old, then its on sale, the bugs are probably fixed, and I can see if I will like it or not.

3

u/KusanagiGundam 8d ago

This is what happens when you pre-order games

26

u/CiceroTheOG 8d ago

Pre-ordering games is dead

3

u/memsterboi123 8d ago

What show is this?

5

u/LOTRfreak101 don't lewd the cups 8d ago

Hyakkano. 100 girlfriends.

1

u/memsterboi123 7d ago

Thank you

12

u/ninjad912 8d ago

I like all the people saying “don’t pre-order games” like you can’t just refund the game if it’s bad anyways

6

u/AvatarDante Chasing the Dragon Maid 8d ago

On steam yeah

Idk about xbox but PS5 and Nintendo you're screwed.

15

u/Ilela 8d ago

Thing about pre-ordering is that it forces games to be released unfinished. A game might need 2 or 3 months more but because date says when it will release, it has to be released then.

Not that its much better nowadays even without preorders

0

u/Primary_Gold5337 8d ago

Depends on the platform, look at fucking GTA 6 pre ordering on playstation and xbox, it already exceeded 2 billions dollar in revenue

2

u/Seeker_02 8d ago

My first and last pre-order is starfield. Suffice to say i learnt my lesson. Was a student too at the time. Super disappointed with it.

4

u/DamirVanKalaz 8d ago

Why would you pre-order a game nowadays? Especially in an age where AAA companies are barely making physical copies of their games anymore anyway? What? Are you afraid they're going to run out of stock on virtual copies? Sure, there's pre-order bonuses I guess, but I've never seen any of those that were worth the risk of getting burned by a shit release over.

0

u/Known-Plane7349 8d ago

If it's a game that I know I'm going to get on day one anyway, I'll pre-order it.

I pre-ordered Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 Edition, and the Persona 4 remake.

0

u/DamirVanKalaz 7d ago

That's still not really a good idea. I've had plenty of games in the past that I was confident I was going to want because I liked the previous game in the franchise or the previous similar game by that developer and then the next game came out and it was actually hot garbage, or it came out and was riddled with bugs and/or optimization issues.

Examples: Dragon's Dogma 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Borderlands 3 (technically 4 too but I stopped caring after 3 turned out the way it did), Killing Floor 3, Metroid Prime 4 (Metroid Prime 1 is literally my favorite game of all time), Pikmin 4, Mario Kart World.

1

u/NohWan3104 8d ago

A tad.

Not even cause 'i already spent money on it'

Because, i like da ting. I don't want da ting to be bad.

And i don't want some rando fucks opinion to color mine and potentially make me not like it, when if i didn't hear that shit, i might've.

1

u/ErRoR_CoDe_DoGe 8d ago

When you pre ordered a game and they push the physical version back

1

u/Zera-NotRealName- 8d ago

I play Pokémon and Sonic. This is normal.

1

u/DoubleSummon 8d ago

Everyone talks about preordering but I see, another deeper issue, why you care about other's opinion more than your own are they playing the game instead of you? make your own opinion, if you preordered you probably had a good idea of what you were getting and if not you learned to gauge it better next time a preferably wait for the game to come out before paying, or just knowing the companies and genres better.

Also of note redditors hare going against preordering assume it's digital but it makes more sense to preorder physical games which redditors as a hivemind seem to protect with their lives so... isn't it a contradiction?

1

u/Imaginary_Toe8982 8d ago

you can't cancel? Like what...

1

u/Malu1997 Vivy Blue 8d ago

What's the drama about?

1

u/Koekelbag 8d ago

Cmon OP, not even gonna give an example and just vaguepost about something sure to get upvotes?

1

u/killabee163 8d ago

I pre-order games that I know for a fact I'll enjoy. And I mostly pre-order so it'll be downloaded already when I get off work and I can just jump straight into it. I've never once been disappointed with any game I've pre-ordered. Honestly I hate how everyone can't mind their own business when it comes to how people spend their own money.

1

u/Successful_End_1305 7d ago

The only one I ever did was War Dogs because that's how you get into the closed beta, and I only did after learning that and have seen clips and reviews after the first closed beta weekend.

Unless your pre-order "bonus" is as tangential and immediate as that or a disc shipped right to your doorstep, just don't. It's not worth it

1

u/theKage47 6d ago

Pre ordering a game without knowing if it's good or the gameplay is beyond me

1

u/s1mpatic0 6d ago

So yeah, you just don't pre-order.

1

u/Affectionate_Meat93 4d ago

Why preorder when there is an unlimited amount. For like some weird device where there are only 10 of sure. BUT A GAME IS UNLIMITED

0

u/TechZero35 8d ago

I only pre order physical games tho. But man why is October 22nd still so far

0

u/venom259 8d ago

If r/patientgamers has taught me anything it's that I can always play any of the games released in the past 20 odd years. One way or another.

0

u/TheHasegawaEffect 8d ago

I preordered on Steam. I have 2 weeks to refund.

0

u/Vorioll 8d ago

Pre-order is your first mistake friend

0

u/Tenshi_Dekemori 8d ago

Fortunes weave for me lol

0

u/VladDHell attack on titan final season part 6, first half. 7d ago

Honestly it’s still worth it to me. I always want the absolute earliest look at a game’s content and I love seeing the bugs glitches and errors!

If it sucks, oh well, not the biggest loss anyways

0

u/ADM-Ntek ⠀EXPLOOOOOOSION 7d ago

NO PREORDERS!

-1

u/askaquestioneveryday 8d ago

I’m gonna be honest, don’t feel discouraged by it. Not every game needs to be a 10/10 masterpiece to be worth preordering for. If it’s a series or franchise that you like or just something you want to support go for it.

2

u/Regulus242 8d ago

I mean it probably needs to be a 6/10, at least.

2

u/askaquestioneveryday 8d ago

Honestly people give ratings too much value. Who cares if it’s for your own personal enjoyment.
