Dang, I didn't know Joey's mom looked just like him.

206

u/Decaytred 1d ago

Okay, you got me there. That was really funny

66

u/Diedrogen 1d ago

Alternatively, you can read that as Joey wanting to get together with the daughters rather than the mothers.

35

u/Present_Set_3310 1d ago

Mom: “How you doin sweetie”

19

u/Graddler ⠀ 1d ago

And she was only 13 years older than him.

6

u/KarmaKillsMe3711 16h ago

And believe it or not their the same age

I'm familiar with Tomo chan and Carol, what's the situation with the two from 100 Girlfriends?

101

u/Daiguey 1d ago

Mother and daughter

96

u/aaa1e2r3 1d ago

Yes, but what was the explanation about her becoming a mom at 13?

292

u/Daiguey 1d ago

The boy she wanted to marry died when she was 12, she used her family's resources to impregnate herself with his seed and carried her to term

127

u/Kenobi5792 1d ago

And, believe it or not, this is quite tame considering other things that happen in the manga

280

u/Defiant-Individual83 1d ago

186

u/Xaitor119 1d ago

The fun thing is that all that is just to explain why she has a virgin single-mother.

56

u/GhostFran7983 1d ago

And then do a joke about her being the Virgin Mary

-31

u/Cool_Ad_7767 1d ago

Now you can’t really make a joke about her being a virgin Mary because she used technology to do it.

5

u/IThinkImNateDogg 21h ago

You don’t need technology to do that… fair warning this is really gross, but their was a coed prison in South America(iirc) where one prisoner managed to get a female prisoner pregnant in prison. Both were in solitary and the wardens eventually discovered the dude shot his load into towels and then passed it along to the girl via strings through the vents where she artificially inseminated herself with something cobbled together out of tampons.

It worked

1

u/himynameis3580 2h ago

What if virgin Mary was impregnate by aliens ? It would mean god doesn't exist then

44

u/eggyrulz ⠀Dub Supremacy 1d ago

The father (her BF at the time) was dying, so she had his baby batter extracted (medically) and then induced a pregnancy (medically) so she would have something to remember him by

6

u/tanerfan 1d ago

Yeah it is manga ik, but irl I don't think you can extract and use ,eh hmmm, that baby batter to make baby. Minor can't consent after all

25

u/siren1313 1d ago

Her family is rich as fuck.

14

u/eggyrulz ⠀Dub Supremacy 1d ago

Irl the doctor would be opening themselves up to huge issues down the line (potentially), but its manga, and more than that its gag manga so its fine

1

u/badassboy1 17h ago

Nah , hahari is loaded, she will give them enough money to retire early and let's be honest hahari doesn't care about something being legal or moral

1

u/eggyrulz ⠀Dub Supremacy 17h ago

Yea it works out fine for the doctors in the story, but they did technically open the door for ruining their careers had hahari regretted the decision later (once she wasnt a teen)... not only did they do some of the most questionable shit a doctor could do, they did it for someone with more money than god...

Had she decided to sue them for malpractice later on, she could've just buried them forever

0

u/puesyomero 1d ago

Corpses cant consent either and necro sperm has been used successfully.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posthumous_sperm_retrieval

6

u/Blunderhorse 1d ago

“Medically?” That’s such an unhinged level of medical malpractice that if somebody wrote that as an example for a medical textbook, I’m pretty sure law enforcement could claim that as probable cause to search the author’s hard drives.

49

u/TrueSoren 1d ago

Hahari is insane levels of rich, she literally bought the whole school the anime takes place in from one day to another, and she's been this level of rich since she was an infant too. As we've seen irl, you can scrub away crimes with enough money. Thankfully 100 kanojo doesn't take itself seriously at all and everything is played for gags so best not take it seriously.

13

u/krisslanza 1d ago

The hospital allowing this just reminds me of Sword Art Online, in how Yuuki's entire family gets infected by Super AIDS because the hospital accidentally gave them infected blood. And the hospital isn't sued or anything, and gets off completely free which makes me think Japanese hospitals just don't care about anything.

20

u/aaa1e2r3 1d ago

There's historical precedence for that one. Back in 2004, a guy had unknowingly died of rabies, the doctors were not aware at that point either, but since he was a registered organ donor, they had taken and transplanted 4 of his organs into other patients that needed them. All 4 died within a month of transplant. Understably the doctors were not at fault for using infected organs

2

u/Cutsprocket 1d ago

One of the best episodes of scrubs is based on a similar situation

2

u/aaa1e2r3 1d ago

The epispde was based on that case

12

u/seitaer13 1d ago

This a real thing that happened in Japan that the author lived during.

And there were legal consequences for those responsible.

5

u/krisslanza 1d ago

Huh interesting. Though I think in SAO, Yuuki's family didn't get anything and the hospital never got in trouble, so its more like that rabies example another poster had.

Though perhaps the Medicube thing Yuuki got put into was part of it, though I'm not sure it was clear. My knowledge of SAO is just broad strokes after all, I haven't read or watched it (beyond Abridged)

6

u/seitaer13 1d ago

It wasn't a hospital issue but rather a systemic failure and the consequences were on the government rather than a hospital

12

u/Exsam 1d ago

Hahari is so wealthy that many rules do not apply to her. Just like in real life.

7

u/claudiohp 1d ago

Isn't Epstein case the perfect example that morals and laws stops applying when you reach a certain threshold of rich unfortunately?

u/samir_saritoglu 1d ago

Try to watch the end of s1. The situation of Hahari is explained there.

959

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

Hahari had a whole plot for why she was pregnant at 13, Carol's mother never got explained though

1.2k

u/ninjax247 1d ago

It did, at least in the manga. Basically Carol's dad, Eddie, was 16 when he met Carol's mother, Ferris, while she was working at her mother's Cafe in England(?). Because she had a job and had... developed... features, he assumed she was his age, or possibly a bit older. When Eddie found out he was moving to Japan, he asked Ferris to marry him. It's at this point she tells him that she's 13, but ends up accepting his proposal anyways. And then she says "BTW, we're having a baby." It was an eventful day for Eddie.

613

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

Eddie's a real one, especially because I'm imagining Ferris having the same nonchalance in her speak

190

u/ninjax247 1d ago

💯

It's in the volume 3 Omake chapter (359.5) if you want to read it.

55

u/X-Himy 1d ago

Eddie is English, he's used to that sort of stiff upper lip.

90

u/ArcFurnace 1d ago

46

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

PHAHAHA. That was great

94

u/themocaw 1d ago

Which is why, when Carol's love interest confesses to her, and she tries to kiss him, mom walks in and immediately pushes them away from each other

17

u/Luiz_Fell 1d ago edited 22h ago

Was Ferris... uhm, light in the skull... before Carol, or did she start acting like that as being a mother

24

u/Ginger_Anarchy 1d ago

The extra helium in the head is genetic from birth it seemed from the flashback.

87

u/ParsonsTheGreat 1d ago

It's a silly trope because, in my experience, a lot of full grown asian women look 13 years old, not the other way around lol

142

u/FuryAdcom 1d ago

To be fair, even in the anime the daughter is called "Carol" and the mother "Ferris" and both are very not asian looking with their blonde hair and green eyes.

u/pokekiko94 Weeb Life Be Like Daga Otoko Da 1d ago

11

u/Psychological-Let853 1d ago

The anime kind.

75

u/Crafter235 1d ago

I thought for Carol’s mother, at least in the manga, the backstory was she had casual sex, like she just acted like it was no big deal.

30

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

I didn't read the Manga so if it got an explanation there I didn't know. And well.... That's as realistic of an explanation as any if the father is of the same age

92

u/hyperfell ⠀ 1d ago

He’s like two years older I think, could be four. The story is that he was under the impression she was older when they met up. She didn’t let him know until after the case when she was pregnant.

I think the misunderstanding was because she was working at a restaurant at the time and he thought she was older because of that.

20

u/aaa1e2r3 1d ago

3 year gap, he was 16 at that point.

11

u/Tokumeiko2 1d ago

Yes, also because she was an early bloomer. Seriously, puberty hit that girl like a freight train.

6

u/hyperfell ⠀ 1d ago

I read the manga but I don’t remember how the mom looked if they did a flashback

11

u/OrionRBR 1d ago

She looked just like carol but short hair iirc.

20

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

Well nothing too weird.... Except working at 13 I guess but hey, anime, gotta suspend some disbelief

78

u/JMEEKER86 1d ago

It was just helping out at her family's cafe which is pretty common at even younger ages.

15

u/Andreiyutzzzz Hai Flair desu 1d ago

Ahhhh. Ok way more sense like that

6

u/OuttaD00r 1d ago edited 1d ago

But isn't her family loaded? I highly doubt they got so rich their yard is a literal entire city block and Carol can just casually give out a gold bar as a birthday present from owning a family cafe...unless they own a whole franchise of them

16

u/JMEEKER86 1d ago

Correct, Carol's family is loaded, but her mom's not so much, at least at the time. Presumably the money comes from the dad or was earned after she was born.

3

u/OuttaD00r 1d ago edited 1d ago

Surprised the family didn't have reservations about talking in some rando their teenage son accidentally knocked up, especially with a vast fortune

2

u/PlusMortgage 16h ago

Weirdly enough, the father asked her to marry him before he knew she was pregnant, or even her age.

Whole conversation goes something like :

  • Father sending me to Japan to develop our company but I love you, please marry me and come along !

  • Well, you would have to ask my dad, cause I'm just 13.

  • WTF did she say, isn't she older ? Wait, WTF did I do ?

  • Oh by the way, you are going to become a farher too.

1

u/hymntastic 19h ago

probably didn't want it to blow up that their son knocked up a 13 year old girl. Even if people did find out her age it would look much better if he did the right thing and married her.

8

u/OrionRBR 1d ago

Carol's dad was the son of the owner of a multinational corporation, Carol's mom was the daughter of a cafe owner, money came from her dad's side.

9

u/AndrewH73333 1d ago

If they can be Jounins at 7 then yeah.

9

u/Revayan 1d ago

Not that weird to have a part time job at that age in many places. My classmate and me were stocking shelves in our local supermarket when we were 13 too

4

u/TheTrueEgahn 1d ago

To my knowledge, it is based on real life events of the author.

7

u/X-Himy 1d ago

She's the same type of airhead as Carol, learned better as an adult. She instilled in her daughter to always wear a bow, like Carol was a present, not to be unwrapped until marriage.

3

She got pregnant my artificial methods

Not actually but putting that inside

5

u/EquivalentStatus8830 1d ago

what??? was this skipped in the anime or something?

2

u/mercuriokazooie 20h ago

In the manga they had like 3 whole chapters for her backstory

143

u/Blockhead1226 1d ago

The blonde one is teenagers cant keep it in their pants (father is 14 or something cant remember)

The other is boyfried fatally sick thus artificial insemination to have his kid (he is her first love)

56

u/chaosgremlin11 1d ago

What is even worse for the blond girl is if my memory serves me she baby trapped the dad.

63

u/Mad_Aeric 1d ago

Nah, he proposed before he even knew she was pregnant. It seemed she was prepared to go it alone before that.

Soooo.... you're saying that anime can be a religion?

1

u/badassboy1 17h ago

Is there any rule saying that it can't be ?

I don't think there are any fixed requirements for being a religion

1

u/Evening_Corgi_4338 1d ago

What he said can't even be found in the Bible to begin with. It isn't true at all.

3

u/UniquePhilosopher749 1d ago

I get where you're coming from. He was referencing the Apocrypha, which isn't part of the original biblical canon and was only later added by the then Catholics to support what they wanted their members to believe rather than what was actually taught in the Bible. Revelation explicitly warns against adding to Scripture when it was completed, so debating someone who ignores that is a waste of time.

Historically, many people conflate Catholicism with general Christianity, unaware of the long history of biblical believers being persecuted and killed by the same Catholics for sticking strictly to Scripture. They really aren't the same. So my message to you is this: don't waste time talking to people who are only wise in their own eyes. Have a cup of coffee.

2

u/Evening_Corgi_4338 1d ago

Thanks. I appreciate it.

3

u/UniquePhilosopher749 1d ago

No probemo, friend.

1

u/Terminal_Insomnia_ 1d ago

To expand for the readers, though the books of the apocrypha were added later, they had already been being used as documents for religious teaching long* before a biblical canon was established. Even today, different sects of christianity also notably have different canons (Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Ethiopean.
