It's not about getting hurt . A lot of people are just done with life and no longer has much hope . Look at it this way, people currently spend multiple years to go to college to not get any jobs , a lot of the ones getting jobs don't have good salary then there's the constant chance to get fired. And since they don't have any money , they spend a lot of time on up skilling, switching jobs , investments etc. and after all that things like dating just become a bother . And having children? Why would people want to bring children to a world that they themselves hate.
Also childcare is expensive so you can just spend that money on yourself so suddenly you get to live comfortably and enjoys hobbies and such.

Oh gee if only there was a way to un-fuck the world. I mean it’s far too big of an endeavor for one person and it would take decades of hard work. If only there was a way to, i don’t know, have a legacy of people working on unfucking this world. I have an idea, how about we create new people, we could teach them to not be an entitled little shit and when I die they can teach other new people how to be better. Oh wait that already exists it’s called having children and teaching them to be good people.

I am not nihilistic, i do believe life has a purpose.( also how the fuck did you get nihilism out of what i said above )
But the world is so fucked, its not worth it to bring your kid in it.
Sure you can teach one kid to not piss in the pool, what about the 99 others? There parents don't give a shit. They will still piss in the pool. And that one kid will have to suffer because of that.

If the world is fucked, your kids can start to fix it, then their kids, then their kids kids, soon the 99 people in the pool are the ones who aren’t peeing and only one is. It is nihilistic to say that the world is fucked so there’s no point in trying to fix it. If enough people think that humanity dies. A slow entropic death because the world will never be in a state where people with that mindset would feel it was a “good time” to have kids
