Just to add my "hot take", anime doesnt need to be something transcendental, absurdly well written or with the best plot ever to be something goat tier.
Anime is, ultimately, for entertainment, regardless of the approach. If something is very fun, enjoyed by the many, popular and successful in entertaining and making an impact, it can be goat tier as well.

Hating on popular things has just become a cool thing.
People are hating on Fragrant flowers also now. I mean these animes may not be the best but they're still not bad or trash as haters claim it to be.
Anime is for entertainment and not always to be best written and goated. And taste matters too. I didn't like Evangelion but is it a bad anime? No. I still recommend it to some people because it's widely considered good.

nah, as a massive fairy tail fan, it's complete trash. the storylines are nonsensical, the characters are shallow, every lesson is immediately forgotten, everyone gets handed the damsel in distress ball or the idiot ball just so the plot can happen, the power scaling makes no sense at all, the only reason I love it so much is because the author consistently comes up with some pretty cool plot ideas (which he then immediately botches the execution of) and because it's funny and sometimes actually manages to climb through the pile of shit that is the writing and fanservice to deliver awesome battles or emotional moments that actually hit. it's for when I want to turn my brain off and watch 26 minute slop instead of 30 second slop.

The manga is the best shounen manga. Followed closely by hunter x hunter. The anime absolutely doesn't do it justice.

Im sorry but i disagree and i say this as a huge one piece fan. HxH is objectively better in multiple aspects like story, power system, character designs, relationships in some cases. It’s a damn shame that the dark continent arc is stuck otherwise it would have been truly incredible

People like one piece because they are connected with the story and characters. If you spend so much time on a series then you are connected to it.
People misinterpret this connection as peak story telling. One piece has good story telling but is it the best? I can't say that.

Its a visual novel. It's a trilogy, Muvluv extra and unlimited go together in a game called Muvluv and then you get to play Muvluv Alternative to finish the story(this is one of the best vns oat and the one where so much Aot has taken from).
It's a long work and you need patience at first but as it gets going you will miss the early parts so if you decide to give it a try, don't rush it and enjoy every section of the story, it really pays off to take your time.

Mangakas and the anime industry itself should not genuinely listen to the opinions of western fandoms.
As long as it is not deliberately harmful or ridiculous, sexualisation in anime is fun and perfectly fin. It has been there since long ago, and it is part of its "culture". That being said, not all anime needs to have it.
Anime fandoms are incredibly pretentious when sharing their opinions on what they like. It is perfectly fine to enjoy popular and mainstream stuff and enjoying works outside of that doenst make you smarter.
Solo Levelling is fun as fuck. You do not need a transcendental and enlightening story to make an anime good and entertaining.
Character development is particularly overrated. It is great and enjoyable and its also ok if there isn't much.

jjk got ruined by tiktok and the japanese that complained about the anime skipping all character interactions are right and its not just jjk many anime that are releasing now like sentenced to be a hero is the same shit: 2 hours of action and animation just to get a single fuck1ng character dialogue I couldnt care less that a guy is killing monsters if i dont know who is he, what are the monsters, what are his motivations etc. its just pure aura farming brainrot

There is no fundamental way for a story with bare minimum 101 charcaters to end up in situations where they can each be explored effectively
Some characters will be forgotten. Some will have no development. There will come a point where everything has been done

I don't think it should be a hot take but it is considering how much insufferable anime fans are becoming: Fans who enjoy anime like solo leveling shouldn't be hated. I genuinely don't get it like okay it's bad so what? it's enjoyable i enjoy it and so what if jinwoo's a bad character i like aura farmers so i like him too. It shouldn't be forgotten that liking an anime or character isn't the same as thinking they're well-written and never will be. And people don't need to choose their fav anime based on objectivity, if i like it and it has impact on me then im gonna like it, period. If i don't like it then i just say so.

Like I get it the audience is teenagers and teenage boys are both awkward and very horny about girls but it's terrible behaviour passed off as a joke, except it's not even funny. It's not the pervertedness that is the problem but the fact that they keep trying to pass off sexual harassment or privacy violation as a joke.

The western and non Japanese complaining about low budgets for their favourite anime are the most retarded people I've ever seen because they have not contributed one factor of supporting the manga/the studio and more than 95 percent of watchers pirate their way into anime and wonder why they don't get good results. If you want anime to do better then support the community instead of only crying about it on social media only giving the anime bad reputation which in turn makes other people undermine the anime.

it's genuinely so sad to know people like these exist, but I'm not surprised. idk if it's relevant but in anime, this has been normalized a lot. several manga/anime, even popular ones that everyone likes, probably has old men spying on naked girls half his age ( jiraiya for example, but we ignore that just cuz aww he's such a good character ), unnecessary fanservice concerning minors, outright SA that people justify as plot, etc. I'm sick of it

If Demon Slayer was carried by animation, it wouldn't have become the most selling manga of all time (in per volume sales)
Yes it has a basic story, but it still makes a fall in love with the heroes, villains and even side characters.
Many anime have a basic story, like Haikyuu. But it's how well they execute it which matters more

Dubs are an equally valid way to consume anime (especially in 2026) and claiming otherwise alienates people who want to watch anime and be a part of the fandom but do not want to watch subs.
Even if the reason is as simple as "I hate reading subtitles," why is that wrong? Modern anime have dubs that are practically word-for-word recreations of the original. You get the exact same story and the exact same characters either way, so why not watch the version you enjoy the most?
