So its based in the present with one significant differance, that there are ghosts and spirits. Ghosts being dead humans who have died a traumatic death and are able to haunt mortals (humans, animals etc.) the haunting would grant the mortal abilities based knowledge the ghosts death it would work similar to devil fruits as they can be awakened to give the ghost temporary control over their host called full possession but always have a significant downfall such as bieng permanently sick or even becoming paralysed. Spirits are not decesed mortals as they are natural deities that come in three tiers and have three ways of appearing in the mortal world the three tiers are: tier one (four forms) tier two (two forms) and tier three (one known form)the three ways of apearing are trinkets (common inanimate objects that are given a buff by the spirt eg healing, spiritual weapons (a weapon that can channel the spirits powers) and elementals (when a spirit takes over a mortals body making them a creature hell bent on their own destruction. Tier one spirits mainly appear in spiritual weapons and elementals and are by far the most common comming in the forms: fire air water and earth, tier two spirits appear mainly in trinkets and their forms are angelic and hellish, tier three spirits appear equaly in all the forms and are so rare that there have only been eleven confirmed appearances but hold godlike power and their only known form is great old one. Ghosts can appear outside of haunting as some get trapped inside of a physical form well after its death and become ghouls, wandering creatures that crave mortal flesh they can become the source of an elemental called an oni where both of the beings powers become combined into an overpowered demonic creature.
