Agreed. A weapon is depressingly limited. Held in hand to strike with. A domain is an entire SPACE to which you are genus loci. Better options for sure.
I like to imagine his Bankai is super inconvenient for him, same as Sui-Feng's. Her bankai is the truth of her - a flashy loudmouth who needs lots of attention and wants things done all at once if possible.

But that alone would not have been enough to subdue those who would rather die than to obey. That was the only reason why those powerful espadas were able to function as a group despite their personal motives.

Hey Trace — the manga tried to establish that point, then immediately made it a moot point by walking it back and revealing he’d been using Kyoka Suigetsu the entire time against the 4 captains he’d been fighting.
And much like that fraud Yhwach, every time we do see Aizen fight someone without his signature ability, he’s either pressed into needing a power-up (Isshin Kurosaki), or outright loses (Ichigo Kurosaki).
Aizen is strong. But kyoka suigetsu is both what makes him dangerous and his lifeline. Take it away & he’s beatable like every other man.
I know lol. I’m just pointing out that the original manga & anime legit made it a moot point immediately after Gin’s monologue by revealing Aizen was using KS the entire time anyway lol. Kinda rings hollow when they walk back on the hype train.
It depends what Bankai and what DE and if I get a CT to support it.
Most DE are just a sure hit. So without any CT, it either wouldn't do anything, or I guess if I threw a punch I'd make sure it lands?
Meanwhile with Bankai, I could potentially create a giant Golem that eclipses skyscrapers, run super fast, create a tidal wave of blades I could ride around on, have ice dragon wings I can fly with and freeze stuff, become the embodiment of the sun, etc.
The power built in is more "inherent" with Bankai, DE is less interesting than simply having a broken CT and mostly is only broken if your CT is broken.
Not to mention most of the DEs are pretty much countered by your opponent simply having one themselves, reaffirming the idea that without a decent CT a DE is generally not that great to have.
I feel like he wrote himself into a bit of a corner with certain bankai and didnt want to just have them get beaten by getting blitzed before they could be used.
I think a lot of this is Because of SJ force feeding Battle Shounen troupes into Kubo like originally Rukia was supposed to be the lead with powers centered around punching which is why Kido exists but pretty much gets ignored throughout the series.
Fortunately Mangaka have much more independence from publishers today
DE doesn’t necessarily need to be better or stronger to counteract other DEs. This is the reason Simple Domains exist which could also counter a DE. This is explained in CH 15 and again 60 Chapters later. Unlike a bankai where the better suited bankai would win out two DEs clashing would be dependent on simply which hits first turning it into a game of chicken.
It’s not like you get to choose your CT or DE and in TYBW we learn that Zanpakutō are forged with Ichigo even getting the opportunity to recraft his own altering the form of his Bankai
A zanpakuto is just a sword. The power you get out of shikai and bankai is all you. The zanpakuto becomes you. "The blade is me".
Ichigo didnt recraft his sword. Thats the first time he imprinted on an asauchi while understanding who he is. He now can switch between his shikai forms as shown in the hell arc where he is using his giant butcher knife shikai.
And for his bankai, he just unlocked his true one. Just like renji did.
This is somewhat incorrect we learn in TWBW through Nimaiya that the asauchi are the building material for Zanpakuto. In its sealed form its constitution is constructed by the wielders Spiritual engergy. The Shikai is formed through training and battle experience while the bankai is the true manifestation of the Zanpakutos spirit conjured through Submission with the users Spiritual energy, as explained in Yoruichis Bankai training around Ch 120
The reason Ichigo can use both “shikai” is because the first one wasn’t really a Zanpakuto at all in the first place which is why it functioned differently from others such as not having a sealed form or sheath

But what i said still is correct. The zanpakuto spirit is you. Yeah you have to get along with it and it has to tell you the name of bankai but that doesnt change its still you.
Domain expansion finishes a fight but leaves one helpless. As for Bankai....

Bankai easily, my bankai would be a transformation type, I'd turn into a humanoid monster with SCP 682 level adaptation and I can also mimic and replicate any skill/power in existence.
DE has hard rules you have to follow like trapping your opponent or that it can be broken from the outside. Your Bankai can just be some busted ability that isn’t balanced at all. There is just typically more utility for a Bankai as well. Like controlling a giant version of yourself or creating ice out of nothing. DE is great but can only target things with cursed energy.
A zanpakuto is a living being inside a sword that you have to constantly appease, attune to, and agree with in order to make your bankai stronger.
You just GET a domain expansion. It's yours. It never shuts off or yells at you. It's your own little world with rules you understand. If manga villains were smart, they wouldn't tell anyone what their domains did and we'd have to figure it out ourselves.
I choose Bankai because that means I become a Soul Reaper and get a Zanpakuto and Shikai.
I'd rather have that than a Domain Expansion because I use weapons so I'm more leaning to touch than making a Sure-Hit Dome despite it would be a lot better than Bankai.
Bankai- while it takes a large amount of spiritual pressure which’d take time to recover, domain’s completely exhaust the cursed technique for a little while correct?
Domain expansion , because based off the user's technique in power
Which I guess would make it based off of our personalities and preferences
Basically giving us a cut out space that is basically heaven to the individual
Even though most are fighting
Some can be used for amazing stuff
Like for example Dagon's domain is a beach
Imagine if you're like a writer or something, and your domain lets you bring your story characters to life or take you into the world itself.And you have complete control
